An Unbreakable Umbrella for Self-Defense? Why not!

January 2, 2022 by SOFREP 2 Comments

If you have to choose your best pick of self-defense, what would it be? Pepper spray? Tasers? Maybe a gun? How about an umbrella?

Remember the bar fight scene in the Kingsman: The Secret Service where Hary Harth (played by Colin Firth) beat those angsty men in style with nothing but his umbrella? You don’t have to be a part of the secret service to do that, too.

The Unbreakable® Umbrella is a virtually indestructible self-defense tool, not only against the rain but also from attackers. This unusual self-defense tool is “as strong as a steel pipe, but it weighs only between 1 lb 1.2 oz/490 g and 1 lb 14.2 oz/855 g.”

Another awesome thing about it is that you can legally bring this weapon around. As we all know, the United States requires a permit to carry weapons. In Florida, for example, a pepper spray canister that is over 2 ounces can only be carried if you have a concealed weapons permit. Some states don’t even allow you to bring one at all.

Thomas Kurz, world-famous martial arts and self-defense expert, came up with the idea in 2004 as he wanted people to be able to defend themselves from attackers. He is also an author of Flexibility Express, Stretching Scientifically, and Secrets of Stretching, to name a few.

What Makes It a Tactical Weapon?

According to Unbreakable Umbrella’s website, it “has no unusual parts, no more metal than an average umbrella.” Here are the specs:

  • It is made of aluminum alloy, steel, fiberglass, and polyamide
  • It can hold pressure up to 100,000 Pa
  • It can support up to 100 kg
  • It weighs 0.7 kg
  • It is 37.7 inches long, the crooked version is 36.75 inches, and the collapsible one is 21.3 inches
  • It has an interchangeable handle
  • It has different designs to choose from (crooked or straight handle, collapsible, strong tips variant)
  • It does not look weird compared to carrying a walking stick for example if you’re an able-bodied person
  • It comes with a five-year warranty

The umbrellas are handcrafted in Poland in limited quantities. While the highlight of this product is obviously its toughness, the cover quality is superb too, as it is made from state-of-the-art waterproof fabric—nevertheless, a normal functioning umbrella.

This tactical umbrella garnered a lot of positive reviews from users. There are tons of video tutorials and demonstrations all over the internet on how to utilize this unbreakable umbrella, like this one. It has been featured on tons of news stories, too. The Philippines’ Presidential Security Group even carried this umbrella!

The price starts at $149.95, which is fairly higher compared to ordinary umbrellas but with the protection and safety that comes with it, it might be worth it.

Although, you have to be mindful that there are several counterfeits tactical umbrellas that look legitimate but are made with substandard materials. If you want an umbrella that can cut a watermellon in two with a single blow, better stick with the original.

Is this something you would get for yourself or maybe a loved one?
