This light rail system weighs in at just 6.8 ounces for the 13-inch version (a 15-inch model is also available), but make no mistake: it’s still rigid enough for professional use thanks to its aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum construction.
The Samson SXS Lightweight uses the company’s Vertical Bias Mount (VBM) technology, which the company says is rigid, straight and easy to install. The VBM barrel nut requires no clocking or shims. The clamp, meanwhile, is captured and comes pre-installed. All you shooters have to do is tighten the barrel nut to AR15 specs, slide the handguard on and tighten the two mount screws. After that, the clamp and alignment tabs combine to create a solid and straight installation.
According to the press release, the M1913 top rail features M-LOK attachment points at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. Samson says that while removing the top rail would be lighter, its engineers wanted to include rail sections for bridging optics with the receiver and installing iron sights.
The 13-inch Samson SXS Lightweight handguard is available for $249, while the 15-inch version has a $259 price tag.
