Professional Gear Reviews
A long time ago, 19-year old me absolutely hated gloves. I would bicker and complain about them, and take them off once we left the COP. I was one of those lower enlisted who thought I didn’t need gloves, why would I? After I grew up and saw my fair share of burns I realized […]
(Article originally published on Spotter Up by Nate Morrison) The recent Every Day Carry (EDC) trend has been interesting to say the least. I am always amazed at how things that were normal for many of us suddenly become these huge viral trends among the civilians and city dwellers. I have always carried a knife […]
(Article originally published on Knife News) Yesterday Spyderco revealed that it will be adding two new models to its Salt series for 2017. The lineup of rustproof maritime blades will see a second keychain knife join its ranks in the form of an H-1 Manbug. The Fish Hunter, a new fixed blade design, will be unveiled in […]
(Article originally published on Breach Bang Clear by Mad Duo Chris) I finally own a Ka-Bar. When I was in the Corps we were issued Camillus copies of Ka-Bars, not the genuine article. Later, when I deployed twice as a soldier, I thought adding a Ka-Bar to my gear would have been melodramatic. There wasn’t […]
I’m gonna say something that will make you call BS on me. Then I’ll back it up. I’ve killed hundreds of thousands of fish. Maybe close to a million in salmon alone. Lest you think I’m an octopus with 8 fly rods and a mainline of coffee, the majority of that was commercial fishing. I […]
Gerber is associated with two things in my world. A cute baby on everything my son had when he was a baby, and it’s often a universal term for multi-tools. In fact, if you’ve spent any time in the military you have heard the term Gerber used for any and every multi-tool. Gerber makes more […]
Combat Flip Flop’s is a Veteran owned, and operated business which operates under the mantra, “Unapologetically, we make cool stuff in dangerous places”. I wrote about the first time I learned of this company in, “When Flip Flops Aren’t Enough”. To summarize, Griff and Lee (while conducting combat deployments to Afghanistan) saw a group of […]
Recently I saw an ad on Facebook for an item called the PACElid. A PACElid is a cap that also functions as a storage container for your wide mouth Nalgene, Kleen Kanteen, and Camelbak water bottles. It looked like an interesting concept so I ordered one. The PACElid is made from a high impact plastic, […]
Combat Gloves are one of the more controversial items in the military’s PPE (Personal Protection Equipment). The controversy comes from the low enlisted trigger pullers hating gloves and the higher ups trying to protect the lower enlisted’s hands. Hands are damn valuable on a battlefield, and with an injured hand you are out of the […]
Emerson and Kershaw. If we run in similar circles you probably think knives. Ernie Emerson has an excellent reputation for building and designing working knives. Kershaw has been around since the 1970s and builds everything from pocket knives to fillet knives. Kershaw has been teaming with a variety of different knife companies and producing some […]
