Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 | Review

Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 | Review

I never gave concealed carry much thought. That was until the summer of 2007 when I found myself assigned to an executive protection team. At this time, I believe, I was like most individuals and I bought the coolest looking holster online. After trying several styles and brands over the years I decided to give Alien Gear Holsters a try. I bought a holster from them for my S&W bodyguard .380 with an extra shell for a FNS 40. The holster I chose was the Cloak Tuck 3.0 in black leather, neoprene back, and nylon clips. This holster soon became my go to everyday carry option for the bodyguard.

S&W Bodyguard

Key features of the Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0

  • Black leather
  • Neoprene back
  • Adjustable ride height
  • Adjustable tilt
  • Adjustable retention
  • Replacement shells
  • Life time warranty

Right out of the package this holster fit my body type. As a Law Enforcement officer I try and carry concealed either at the 3 o’clock position or the 5 o’clock position. This holster was meant to be carried at the 5 o’clock position. There are three holes on the right and left side to adjust for ride height and tilt. When carrying my Bodyguard I place the nylon clips in the middle holes. This keeps the firearm low on the belt, but I am able to still get my grip when drawing. With a mod pack included there are limitless options when fitting the holster to you and the firearm.

The mod pack comes with different sized spacers. These spacers can be used to increase or decrease the retention level on the firearm. I use a tight fit on the firearm because I typically am not out and about by myself, so a tight fit helps keep the firearm secured while picking up groceries, pets, or the kids. The neoprene backing keeps the holster tight on my back, while still allowing it to breathe during the summer season. Even with the tighter fit the holster still allows for a smooth draw.

The ability to adjust this holster to me and the firearm sets it apart from the competition. But, the replacement shells, to me, are one of the biggest bonuses of Alien Gear. Instead of buying a different holster for each pistol, you just need the shell. As a law enforcement officer and family man this cost savings idea is a big plus. The only problem I have encountered with this holster is the need to lock tight the set screws on the nylon clips. The clips tend to rotate with the spacers and eventually come unscrewed. Alien Gear covers all the bases when it comes to fitting the holster to you and the firearm.
