Shoot Like a G-Man: The FBI’s Qualification Draws from Concealment, Up Close and Personal

The FBI spends a lot of time and effort studying gun fights. In 2014, they redesigned their qualification to reflect the lessons learned and emphasize rapid first shots from concealment.

If you want to test your abilities against a standard, here is a solid evaluation. Civilian concealed carry is different than law enforcement shooting, but many skills transfer. Qualification is not training, it is a learners permit which shows you can manipulate the gun and apply marksmanship under time pressure.

Designed to evaluate the readiness of FBI agents, the course of fire requires 60 rounds. All draws are from concealment. The course uses the reduced sized QIT target. Any hit in the bottle outline counts as one point. 48 out of 60 total points is a passing score.

This video demonstrates the FBI Pistol Qualification Course.
