Ineffective Laws and Gun Violence: The Tragedy Behind New York’s Anti-Gun Rhetoric

Information always seems to come in waves after a mass shooting, and the shooting in the New York City Bronx hospital is no different. After reading some of the reports from the left media, it’s even clearer to me that the knowledge for firearms and the laws are minimal. I can’t take any news outlet seriously if they can’t even use proper terminology or have the slightest clue what a law they’re praising even says or includes.

The laws are pretty clear in NYC though. AR-15’s are illegal to own. The owner must register all rifles and shotguns after the owner applies and is approved for a log gun permit in NY City. Which means that the killer was able to legally purchase the firearm because of NY State law, however being that he lived in the Bronx, he was not able to legally own it in his NY City apartment. The firearm he purchased was compliant with the NY State SAFE Act. Which means there was no pistol grip, no adjustable stock, no flash suppressor, and only a 10 round magazine (not a clip, because AR-15s don’t use clips).

The killer also underwent a background check when he purchased his firearm because that’s the law. There was nothing that would have stopped him from obtaining a firearm. So again, what law stopped him from purchasing a firearm and bringing it someplace to harm innocent people? Nothing, he was determined. However how many laws prevented innocent bystanders from protecting themselves?

This is the first time we’ve had a mass shooting in NYC since the SAFE Act was passed. And now the left wants to know why this happened if there were laws in place to prevent it. They want to know how that firearm had the same firing capacity as an AR-15 with a pistol grip. Oh and by the way, sights are not illegal in NY State but according to the New York Times they are. This dispersal of incorrect information can be extremely dangerous. There are plenty of reliable resources that are able to give correct information that the media can easily access. Laws passed solely on emotion are the most dangerous laws.

The only way that laws are effective in any capacity is if there is logic behind them. Banning cosmetic applications to firearms does not change the ability of the firearm to operate. The round itself does not change based off the firearm. But again, this all goes back to education. Want to learn about firearms? Ask someone who shoots, not the media.

Educating and empowering women by teaching them the ways of the gun world has become a passion of mine. Aside from shooting and saving lives, doing anything else that can raise adrenaline pretty much sums me up.
