NEMO’s Airpin Ultralight Stake Wins Backpacker’s Editors’ Choice Award

NEMO’s Airpin Ultralight Stake Wins Backpacker’s Editors’ Choice Award

March 11, 2019 {Dover, NH}—The new 2019 Airpin™ Ultralight Stake from NEMO has won Backpacker Magazine’s Editors’ Choice award, announced at the Outdoor Retailer Snow Show on January 30th and featured in the Spring 2019 Gear Guide, on sale March 8th. “They’re extremely easy to use. No more fighting with knots as you struggle to get your shelter set up,” said Backpacker Associate Gear Editor, Eli Bernstein. The new Airpin Stake, sold in sets of 2 and 4, is available now through specialty retailers.

The smart, new Airpin Stake offers a three-point locking system to hold cord tight while eliminating the need for knots, cord locks or guyout tensioners. The tapered geometry is ideal for driving into the ground and the 7075 aluminum offers superior strength for its minimal weight.

“The stakes are the perfect trifecta of outdoor ease: ultralight, ultra strong (no more bent stakes!), and ultra easy without having to fuss with knots,” said Backpacker tester, Heather Balogh. “When you combine all that with the low price point, the stakes quickly became a must-have in our backpacking quiver. Their versatility is an added bonus; I suspect these will be popular with the hammock and tarp-camping crowds who can now get ease without sacrificing weight.”

Since its inception, the Backpacker Editors’ Choice Award has become regarded as the most sought-after award for outdoor equipment and apparel. All winners must excel under extensive field testing conducted by Backpacker’s team of editors, who take hundreds of products into the backcountry to put them to the test. This rigorous process ensures that the performance of the winners is truly worthy of distinction and meets the guiding principle behind the program: to call out gear that is of real value to the readers of Backpackermagazine, active, long-term outdoor enthusiasts.

“We really appreciate Backpacker’s keen eye and support for new ideas,” said NEMO founder, CEO and Lead Designer, Cam Brensinger. “Our new Airpin stake reflects the attention to detail we are striving to give everything we make. Incorporating cord adjustment into the stake instead of using a separate plastic component saves a little weight and adds longevity. But most of all, it’s about taking nothing for granted, and we’re grateful for Backpacker’s encouragement of innovation.”

NEMO’s 2019 product line, available at nemoequipment.com and at retailers across the US, includes a complete refresh of the sleeping pad line, as well as patent-pending innovations and new introductions throughout the tent and sleeping bag categories. To find your local dealer, click here.
