Hults Bruk Akka Forester Axe

July 3, 2018 by Loadout Room Guest Authors Leave a Comment

Hults Bruk Akka Forester Axe

This axe is easily one of the best-constructed and rugged tools I have ever owned.  The lineage behind Hults Bruk is long and full of rich Swedish history dating back to 1697 which only adds to the axes’ appeal. Upon opening the box for the Akka Forester’s Axe, I immediately noticed how much care had been taken on the construction of this axe. The American hickory handle was shaped to fit the hand perfectly, and the 1.5lb head was joined to the axe with no wiggle or water soaking needed. The leather-carrying sheath was decorated with some Swedish accents for a subtle touch pointing to the fact the axe was forged in a Swedish foundry dating back to 1697.

I received the Akka Forester’s axe right before a trip I took to the mountains of Virginia and was very excited to try it out. Walking back into the woods I found some freshly fallen, still green trees that I decided to take some time to test out the axe on. I performed excellently. The 24” handle made for a good swing arc while cutting the tree in half but also allowed for easy carrying and one-handed manipulation for smaller tasks such as shaving bark or making fire-starting sticks.  The axes’ head itself was extremely sharp and held an edge all week with multiple times of using it. The weight and balance of the axe allowed for easy cutting and splitting of wood while still being small and light enough for backpackers or minimalists. I also used the back of the axe as a hammer for some small fence repairs and driving some stakes and as to be expected the Akka handled it with ease. When I got back to my house I had the axe hanging in the garage and had a couple friends ask about it based on the looks of the axe and reputation that Hults Bruk has.

Overall this is one of the best axes I have ever used and the fact it has such a rich history behind it and the company itself makes it even better. Hults Bruk made an excellent tool which is equal parts collector’s item, conversation starter, and hard working tool that handles any task with ease. I highly recommend the Hults Bruk Akka Foresters Axe to the homeowner with land, adventurer, and outdoor enthusiast. I personally am looking forward to buying more products from Hults Bruk based on how well this axe has served me.
