Exotac nanoSPARK Review

August 19, 2017 by Loadout Room Guest Authors Leave a Comment

Exotac nanoSPARK Review

Following a brief and successful Kickstarter campaign, Exotac is ready to release another quality product for the purposes of fire starting on the go. The nanoSPARK is a lightweight and portable tool that is guaranteed to be a must-have item in any EDC or outdoors kit.

At only 0.6 ounces, the nanoSPARK uses a low friction brass flint wheel with replaceable flints to create the spark. Exotac will ship the product with 5 pieces of quickLIGHT tinder, which is specially treated cotton that can be used as the starting point for a larger fire. The bottom of the nanoSPARK unscrews from the main sparker to reveal a tinder tray that will keep dry in the heaviest of rain or submersion. Made of CNC machined aluminum and coupled with a tight seal O-ring, the tinder storage capsule is 100% waterproof.

Exotac nanoSPARK Review

An attachment point below the flint wheel provides the option of attaching it to a lanyard or keychain. This is very useful for EDC carry, which is what I currently use it for. For an outdoor excursion, a lanyard tied around a belt loop will keep the nanoSPARK perfectly accessible in a pocket for quick access.

To use the product, you simply unscrew the capsule, remove and fluff the end of the tinder, then get to sparking. If you already know how to use a lighter, then you’ll find the learning curve to be extremely short. If you find your flint is starting to produce less of a spark over time, you can simply replace it with a new one. The storage capsule does a great job at keeping these dry as well, so you’ll always have everything you need to keep this system operating for years.

It is currently offered in Orange, Olive, Gunmetal, and Black. At the time of this writing, Exotac is expected to finish shipping orders to the backers who pledged on their Kickstarter campaign before the end of July. Once the campaign is over, the price should hover around $27. Keep an eye out for this product on Exotac’s website for more information in the near future!
