I have had a love hate relationship with gun painting. When I was a kid, I saw pictures of the Rhodesian Army pattern painted FN-FALs and I thought that was the coolest thing. When I tried pattern painting guns, the finish just wore off, creating a mess. After a lot of ugly guns, I discovered Cerakote. It is a baked ceramic finish that wears hard. Now I have a bunch of  Cerakoted guns and I can’t stop.

I got my first BDL gun when they did the Burnt Bronze Woodland Camouflage for Aero Precision. Every body has their Kryptonite, I have always liked the Woodland pattern, and the BDL work was awesome. It is tough and I can’t stop looking at it. Here is my gun:

What is Cerakote? “Cerakote is a ceramic based finish that can be applied to metals, plastics, polymers and wood. Cerakote is more durable than any other aftermarket sprayed on finish. There are many types of finishes, sprayed, chemical, plated to name a few. Nickel, Hard Chrome are some of the most durable finishes you can use but have their limits as far as color choice! The combination of Cerakote H Series and Cerakote’s new Armor Clear makes BDL finishes even more durable than non-cleared work.

It’s natural for items to wear due to heat and friction. Cerakote isn’t the cure-all, end-all solution but it will last if it is properly taken care of. Using a silicon cloth to wipe down the finish helps reduce friction and will prolong your Cerakote finish.For performance and durability test results please check out Cerakote’s website.

• Fill out the order form completely – Be sure to include a detailed list of any parts you are sending! (If you are disassembling the firearm yourself it must be accompanied by a full inventory list of parts. The firearm must be completely stripped  – every pin, spring and screw must be disassembled.
  
• –Please let BDL know the color/pattern you would like your project to be painted – BE SPECIFIC! The more detail the better so we can paint your project exactly how you envision it. You can even include reference pictures if you’d like!
• If shipping from home please send a copy of your drivers license
• If shipping from an FFL please include a copy of your FFL’s License
• Pack up your project with the order form included and ship via UPS or Fedex to BDL! Be sure to wrap your items well, we are not responsible for items damaged during shipping
