Heckler & Koch P2000 Handgun | First Impressions

Heckler & Koch P2000 Handgun | First Impressions

For over 50 years, Heckler & Koch have been a leading designer and manufacturer of small arms and light duty weapons systems for both Military and Law Enforcement. H&K’s reputation for quality, innovation and safety make Heckler & Koch a recognized leader in the development of technologically advanced firearms and tactical products. The long-term durability of all the H&K products make them especially cost-effective when you subject them to harsh everyday use.

I first started researching the H&K brand when I heard SOFREP founder and CEO Brandon Webb talk about them on his SOFREP Media podcasts. One day another listener asked him what he chooses to carry as an EDC concealed handgun and the HK P2000 “SK” was his answer. Now since H&K is a German brand, “SK” in this case stands for “sub compact” or a smaller more concealable version of the P2000. I knew they made really cool guns like the MP5 and really cool long rifles, but I never knew I could actually own any of it now that I am a civilian. They weren’t even on my radar when I would frequent the Texas gun shows, that are pretty much every weekend. My first choice when it comes to concealed carry for me personally is a larger handgun that can still be concealed. I just don’t like the really small “sub compacts”; they just don’t work for me. I know there are mag extensions and so forth, but I prefer something full size that can still be concealed without giving away the fact you are carrying.

So I chose to purchase the H&K P2000 chambered in 9mm and in double action only. I prefer a double action as I am used to a straightforward point and shoot style without a de-cocking lever or safety. Again, just my preference. As a former Police patrol officer I was issued a SIG Sauer p226 as my primary weapon and it also was a double action, so maybe that’s where I get it from? So far, my first assessment of the H&K P2000 is that it feels great in my hands, not too big and bulky but just right. I have already ordered a red dot laser sight from and a fourth magazine for extra capacity.  I know I will enjoy shooting this gun. We have some range time coming up soon and I will do a more in depth look at the H&K P2000.
