Range bags make life so much easier. If you’ve built a dedicated range bag you really don’t know the level of convenience you are missing out on. I remember the days where I was shoving guns in the Tupperware they came with and putting ammo, ear and eye pro into a grocery bag. Times have changed though and ever since I purchased a range bag proper I knew I could never go back. In fact, I don’t have just a range bag, I have several. I have one for riflery, for shotguns and trap shooting, and now one for shooting handguns. Thanks to Crate Club I’m now equipped with the Blackhawk Sportster Pistol Range Bag.
Blackhawk Sportster Pistol Range Bag
The first thing the Blackhawk Sportster Pistol Range Bag does right is organizational ability. There are three pouches on this range bag. The main pocket in the middle is broken up into three different compartments thanks to two removable dividers. This allows you to separate protective equipment from ammo, and ammo from cleaning gear.
The two additional pouches are designed to hold handguns. They each come with a removable padded pocket that is lined internally with a soft material to protect your guns from bumps and falls. These pockets have enough room for two full sized handguns, and you can even squeeze most plastic gun boxes in each of these pistol pouches.
The second thing the bag does well is access. Everything is easy to zip and unzip and reach in and out to grab and retrieve goods. The main pouch has a massive dual zippered opening top to make getting your gear simple and easy. It’s also easy to look in and see what’s wear in an instant.
All the zippers are oversized and easy to pull. The outside of the bag also has a few strips of MOLLE on the outside to allow you to expand the bag. I added the Blackhawk STRIKE medical pouch because I feel an IFAK is essential range gear.
Construction
Good design is great, but if it won’t last what is it really worth? The Blackhawk Sportster Pistol range bag is made of a heavyweight 600 denier polyester and a thick PVC laminate that’s tightly woven. This makes it somewhat water resistant and I know this for a fact because I live in Florida and have been rained on twice while using this bag. It wicks most of the rain away and protects whatever is inside well.
You don’t have to be afraid of stacking this thing with some seriously heavy gear. The stitching is two rows of heavy seam binding. The shoulder strap and handles are nice and wide as well to help distribute any serious weight you place in the bag.
Overall this a well constructed, and easily organized bag. While it is the Blackhawk Sportster Pistol Range bag, it is big enough for multiple uses. It could easily be a Modern Sporting Rifle bag, or even a shotgun bag. The only thing I see it being too small for is the equipment needed for long range shooting. We can add versatility to the list of things this bag does well.
