Malcolm at The Hidden Woodsmen makes high quality bushcraft and hiking nylon gear, everything from backpacks, to haversacks, and many other pouches. All his material is sourced from within the United States and is handcrafted by him. Each piece of his gear is made custom due to the many colors and upgrades that are available.
I’ve previously reviewed his Huntsman Light Pack and Belt Pouch, which are both equally as rugged and durable as this haversack. After using the Huntsman Light Pack for a while, I thought it would be really cool if I could get that same design and size in a haversack configuration.
I contacted Malcolm and told him what my idea was and what I was looking for. He without hesitation said yes that he could do that. It doesn’t get much cooler than that – actually talking to the manufacturer to make a few tweaks to an existing design to fit my personal preferences. Malcolm at The Hidden Woodsmen is the real deal and he has a heart for veterans.

Size: 12″ Long x 11″ Wide x 4″ Deep
Material: 500D Cordura for both the Outside and lining. The Cordura gives this haversack excellent water repellency and abrasion resistance.
Suspension System: 2″ wide shoulder webbing with an adjustable quick disconnect buckle.
MSRP: $80 direct from The Hidden Woodsmen website.
Unique Features: For my personal haversack I chose the bright yellow lining. This gives me increased visibility when looking for smaller items in the main compartment. I also opted to have a Velcro accessory pocket on the outside of the haversack.
Application: The Hidden Woodsmen Haversack is an 18th century reproduction and is ideal for short day hikes and hunting excursions.
Pros: Made in the USA. Extremely durable and resistant to harsh weather conditions. Low profile and lightweight – ideal for when you need to move with stealth through the woods.
Cons: The wait time for his custom work can take up to 8 weeks, but the wait is worth it.
Bottom Line: This is an awesome bag to have on day hikes or scouting for a hunt. This is the type of bag 18th century military scouts used for their kit during patrols. With this type of bag you are forced to really think of what you need to carry vs. what you want to carry. I’m a military history buff to a certain extent so using a bag for my day hikes that mimics what the early military scouts used is pretty damn cool. In my upcoming field review, I will cover my custom Hidden Woodsmen Haversack in more detail along with the contents that I carry.
