I recently decided to swap out my Glock 21 for a new Glock 41 Gen 4. I was eager to see the difference in trigger pull and the slightly longer sight radius due to the longer barrel and its status as “Competition Size”.
I had a brief chance to compare a Glock 21 model to the new 41 in the store and see up close what the differences would be like. They were subtle but noticeable, especially the barrel and slide length which seem to be a big difference even though the 41 is only 0.7 inches longer. Then the weight, the 41 is lighter by 2.31oz, again subtle but noticeable.
UNPACKING The Box:
Inside the case are the normal options you’ll find from Glock, 3 magazines, a loop lock, a manual, spent shell casing, and a magazine loader/helper. Everything is nice, pretty, new, and in its place as it should be. I removed the pistol and practiced drawing, and dry firing for a few minutes to ensure the pistol cycled properly and to get a good feel for the new sight picture I would be seeing the next day at the range. The sight picture was different, there’s that word again, but it didn’t seem strange and this being a Gen 4 Glock, like my 21 was, the grip angle was the same. Coming up and on target wasn’t an issue and dry firing and cycling the action was fine so I packed the gun up with the rest of the gear and made ready to hit the range the next morning.
HOME ON THE RANGE:
Range day was a sunny and balmy 37deg which made for a great start to the day, but any day on the range is great right?!! We unpacked, set up some targets, and started basic target shooting to get a good feel. The trigger is quite noticeably lighter, 4 Newtons according to the Glock website, and a quick calculation shows 4 Newtons to be approx. 1lb. The Glock 21 is listed as 28N, (6.3lb) and the 41 at 24N or 5.3 lbs and it’s the most significant of the “differences” I worked through. The trigger distance feels smooth, the same as the Glock 21 it breaks clean and crisp, the sear reset is the same and both are unchanged to my untrained/non-calculated feel.

Weighs 2.311oz less
Barrel length is 0.7 inches longer
Trigger pull is 24 N(5.3lbs) vs the normal 28 N (6.3lbs)
As you’ll see in the video, I did encounter some feed issues but these were proven to be due to a third-party magazine issue and not the Glock 41. I fired the 41 before and after the video using the standard Glock magazines I had used previously with my Glock 21, and the new magazines included in the case, all functioned perfectly with no feed issues. We do address the SGM magazines in another article and some possible causes of the issues.
CONCLUSION:
I like it! The trigger and Line of Sight take some getting used to but not so much that it ruined our informal competition or the fun of being on the range so you’ll see more of this in future video’s as I try to get a good holster and light for it.
