Magpul product release: Magpul PMAG D-50 LR/SR GEN M3

Magpul product release: Magpul PMAG D-50 LR/SR GEN M3

The Magpul PMAG D-50 is a rugged, lightweight, and reliable 50-round polymer drum magazine designed for 7.62×51 NATO/.308 Winchester ammunition for SR25/M110 pattern rifles. It’s capable of using longer-than-SAAMI-spec match ammunition, up to 2.830” OAL, such as M118LR. Engineered to the same exacting standards as the famous Magpul PMAG and PMAG D-60 drum magazines, the D-50 continues the PMAG tradition of high-capacity performance and dependability.  In addition, the D-50 brings GEN M3 features, which means enhanced strength, durability, and reliability. A ratcheting loading lever removes spring tension, making the D-50 easily loadable by hand. An anti-glare translucent window on the rear of the drum makes for quick positive visual indication of remaining ammunition. Additionally, the D-50 can be disassembled quickly with a simple flat blade screwdriver, and a has a dot matrix pattern that allows for easy marking and identification. At approximately 1.5 lbs. empty, and 4.5 lbs. loaded, the Magpul D-50 is one of the lightest 50-round 7.62×51/.308 drums available and is priced well below current competition. Designed specifically for 7.62×51 NATO/.308 Winchester ammunition and use with other calibers such as .260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor is not recommended.

Magpul Daka pouch is now part of my medical loadout

Magpul Daka pouch is now part of my medical loadout

It seems like I’m never done ‘dialing in’ my gear. I’m always looking for better-streamlined ways of setting up my gear so that I can access it quickly when needed. Most importantly my medical gear. When it comes to medical emergencies, seconds count when first responders are minutes away. That’s why we, the capable citizens, need to step in and fill that void. Be ready and capable to react to a bad situation. For a while now I’ve carried both the mini trauma kit and first aid kit from Dark Angel Medical. Nothing wrong with those kits, they are great kits, but I’m constantly evolving my gear and that sometimes means changing things up. That’s where my medium sized Magpul Daka pouch comes into play. I’ve actually had it for a while, but never really found a dedicated use for it. Until now.

So to set the stage for why I moved to the Daka pouch, let’s talk about the backpack I use daily when I do commute to somewhere to work. I’ve been through many packs and have always gone back to the Camelbak Urban Assault pack. It’s not set up or designed to be a hydration pack, but to be an EDC bag for the digital nomad and it excels at that. I’ve done a few ‘one bag’ trips using only this backpack and it has never disappointed.

The front of the backpack has a vertical slip pocket, which is where I have kept the Dark Angel medical kits for fast access. They typically would just ride in the bottom of the slip pocket and I would just need to reach in and pull them out. After taking a closer look at the size the medium Daka pouch with regards to the size of the vertical slip pocket, the wheels started turning. Take a look at the video for a better look at what I mean and what medical supplies I choose to carry inside the Daka pouch.

Tenicor Certum IWB Holster

Tenicor is a hot company at the moment. Many of the more infamous tactical/firearm e-stores have been stocking their products and there is clearly a following. Their most popular holster seems to be the Tenicor Velo, an AIWB rig, with a wedge molded onto the backside of the holster for better concealment, (achieved by pushing the grip of the handgun closer to the body.) For the past few months, I have been carrying the Tenicor Certum. It’s basically a Tenicor Velo without the famous wedge, (for those of you who don’t carry appendix or don’t have trouble concealing.) It’s definitely a good holster, but as with everything, there are things that I like and dislike about the product.

I figured some might ask about the print, it’s titled “Into The Breach.” It was my going away present after leaving the 1/75 K9 Section.

Gerber Gator Clip Point Folding Knife: Field tested in the Marine Corps

Gerber Gator Clip Point Folding Knife: Field tested in the Marine Corps

The Gerber Gator Clip Point folding knife with serrations was my first real field knife. I purchased it at the PX on base at Camp Lejeune when I needed a folding knife for the field. We were getting ready to leave on a training deployment to Northern California for Mountain Warfare Training for a month. Once there and immersed in the course we would be spending most of our time outdoors learning everything from wilderness survival to warfare tactics in a mountainous environment. The Gerber Gator proved itself as a dependable field knife time and time again through several training deployments and field training exercises.

From Gerber:

When Gerber debuted their line of Gator folding knives in 1991, they were voted “Most Innovative Knife of the Year” at the Blade Show. The handle is made of glass-filled nylon and it’s covered with a rubberized alligator skin texture for a tacky, comfortable grip. The lock-back clip point blade has a serrated edge and is forged from 420HC stainless steel. Sheathed in a heavy-duty nylon case, the Gator is still one of Gerber’s most popular folders.

  • Blade Steel: 420HC Stainless Steel
  • Blade Length: 3.76″
  • Overall Length: 8.58″
  • Closed Length: 4.96″
  • Weight: 5.4 oz
  • Blade Style: Clip Point, Serrated
  • Lock Mechanism: Lock back
  • Handle Material: Glass-filled nylon w/ Gator Grip overmold
  • Sheath Material: Ballistic Nylon
  • Gator Grip handle texture provides maximum grip for any situation, wet or dry
  • Safety-focused design features a lock-back mechanism that keeps the blade securely in place while in use

Tenicor ARX Holster: A Strong Fortress for Your Pistol

Tenicor ARX Holster: A Strong Fortress for Your Pistol

ARX in Latin means a Citadel, Stronghold, Fortress.  ARX in Tenicor means a Citadel, a Stronghold, a Fortress for your pistol!

Purposeful Design

The Tenicor ARX holster is a simple design with no hardware to fail you.  When you pick the holster up for the first time you’ll be surprised at the lightweight and evident strength.

The shape and weight of the holster lends itself to secure all-day wear.  If you care about concealment but prefer an outside the waistband carry, this is the holster you want at or just behind your strong side hip.  In a world of fancy and inside the waistband holsters, the Tenicor ARX stands out as thinking outside the box.

Tenicor ARX Holster: A Strong Fortress for Your Pistol

A purposeful design of the holster places the gun tight against your body while still being comfortable.  The pistol is easy to draw from the Tenicor ARX with a 10 degree forward cant.

Tenicor smartly placed the belt slots on the holster so that the pistol rides high enough to keep the gun from showing without having to wear long shirts or jackets.

Securely Concealed

With your pistol inserted into the Tenicor ARX holster you know it is secure. No frills, no snaps, no buttons, and no-nonsense with the ARX holster.

Tenicor ARX Holster: A Strong Fortress for Your Pistol

You have one adjustment point on the holster which allows you to easily adjust the level of retention on your pistol.  The holster has integrated belt loops that are angled perfectly for a tight fit to your body that doesn’t pinch. Tenicor paid attention to strength and simplicity when they built the ARX.

Precision Fit

Tenicor has built the ARX holster from custom CAD designs and then precision machined CNC tooling to create a positive fit.  Tenicor is currently offering the ARX Holster for the GLOCK pistols in models 19/23, 17/22, 48, 43 and 43x.

When you purchase a Tenicor ARX you also will need to choose a loop size to match your belt.  The choices for loop size are 1.50″ or 1.75″.

Lifetime Guarantee

No frills or lengthy explanations are needed from Tenicor on their stance about a warranty.  If it fails, they will replace it.

Tenicor is an American design, development, manufacturing, and training company that builds products that work.

As tested, the ARX holster costs $87.00. If you’re Military, Law Enforcement, or a First Responder, contact Tenicor for a coupon code.

The Crate Club & NFW Watch Collaboration

The Crate Club & NFW Watch Collaboration

A watch is a great way to finish off your look. Not only can watches be a lifesaver to those in the military, but they are a staple in a gentleman’s daily carry and wear. I own both the Auto Pilot and Valor from NFW and they are nothing short of rugged, dependable and bad-ass, which is why we chose them to collaborate with on the custom Crate Club watch.

NFW Watch Company is a small American owned and run business designing and producing quality timepieces. NFW is known for their support of the military and our veterans and gives a portion of each sale back to specific charities. For a list of their timepieces that give back, see their ‘Purpose Driven’ page.

Although you can read the specifications below, I would like to briefly cover a few of them and why we decided to go the direction we did. The 316L stainless steel case will stand up to day-to-day wear as well as other less than ideal conditions. The addition of the raised bezel ensures that the hardened mineral crystal remains unscathed during any activity or if it gets dropped.

With a water resistance of 100 meters, you’ll be able to wear this watch during swimming, snorkeling and other water-related activities. Under the hood is a rugged Citizen Precision Quartz movement that will withstand shock and abuse much better than other mechanical/automatic movements (primarily due to fewer moving parts) and will continue to run reliably for 10 years. Citizen movements are Japanese and seem to be very analogous to a Toyota truck: tough, reliable, well-designed & long-lasting.

We worked closely with NFW to ensure that the finished product would be one that we could stand behind for years to come. This watch is one that can be worn with everything from a t-shirt to a custom bespoke 3-piece suit.

Specifications:

  • CASE: The Crate Club watch uses NFW’s Valor case design (42mm), which is forged from the very best 316L surgical/marine-grade stainless steel. The bezel is raised in order to provide protection for the crystal when wearing the watch in active, rough situations.
  • WATER RESISTANCE: 100 Meters/330 Feet
  • CASEBACK: 316L stainless steel, screw-in, with customized engraved graphics.
  • CRYSTAL: Hardened mineral glass (heat-tempered to an optimal balance between scratch resistance & impact resistance). Anti-reflective coating on the underside of crystal.
  • LUME: Swiss SuperLuminova (multiple layers of C3), on the hour/minute hands and all hour markers.
  • MOVEMENT: Citizen precision quartz, with whopping 10-year continuous-run battery life
  • STRAP: Black Italian oiled leather, white contrast stitching, with reinforcing rivets at the strap stress area. Custom machined stainless steel buckle with NFW “lay-flat” design so the buckle maintains a low-profile on the wrist.
  • BONUS STRAP: Black ballistic nylon Nato strap included for when the watch is to be used in rough, wet, muddy, sweaty conditions.  Also included is a steel strap changing tool.
Custom presentation box, genuine leather strap, nylon nato strap, strap changing tool.

If you missed getting this watch in our premium crate you have the opportunity to pick one up in our online store.
