Streamlight ProTac 1L-1AA Everyday Carry Flashlight

July 31, 2017 by Scott Witner 3 Comments

Streamlight ProTac 1L-1AA | Review

We’ve done several articles on EDC flashlights covering different brands. My personal favorite is the Streamlight ProTac series of lights. For a few years I’ve been carrying either the ProTac 2L or the ProTac 1AA as my everyday carry light. One of the advantages of the 1AA was the fact that it is powered by a common battery size found in almost any store, but it was obviously not as bright as the 2L which is powered by two CR123 batteries. Typically I would carry the 1AA as my daily light. If I was going out at night anywhere I would take the 2L just for the shear fact that it has a much brighter output.

Recently Streamlight has released a new light that combines the best of both worlds from the 1AA and 2L. The new light is known as the ProTac 1L-1AA. The obvious advantage to this light over any other light on the market is the fact that it can be powered by either a AA battery or a single CR123 battery depending on what you have available and what kind of output you are looking for. I generally run mine with a CR123 battery, but can always fall back to a AA if need be.

The ProTac 1L-1AA is damn near the perfect size to throw into your pocket for the day. A combination of the size and the serrated bezel make this a great impact weapon as well.

A subtle but useful strike bezel

I know a former DEVGRU operator that swears by the Streamlight ProTac series of lights, which should tell you something. A tip I picked up from him is to wrap a short length of duct tape around the center of the light, so that you always have some tape available for whatever reason.
