I recently purchased an individual marker panel to carry in my day pack when headed into the woods. I did a little research before making the purchase and discovered just how useful a signal panel, such as the one from Battle Systems, can be for a day in the woods or just out for a short hike. The MPIL Marker Panels you get from Battle Systems LLC, come two sided. One side has the bright orange you see on most emergency type panels. The other side comes in your choice of camouflage patterns. I chose to get mine in the old school Woodland pattern, since that is the best pattern ever developed.
Due to the dimensions of the panel and the material used, it packs down extremely compact using the included shock cord.
As for signalling, the panel is pretty visible being that it is the bright orange. I stood about 100′ away from the panel and was pretty impressed with its visibility considering it’s size.
The MPIL marker panel has gutted 550 cord sewn into each of the 4 corners to use for hanging the panel from a tree, a fence or your backpack.
If you’re not in any type of emergency where you need to signal for help, the MPIL panel can still be very useful. I like to use mine when prepping small sticks for a fire. If the ground is damp in any way I use the marker panel as a moisture barrier and do all my prep work on the camouflage side of the panel.
The Marker panel also makes a great moisture barrier for kneeling on or sitting on if the ground is wet due to rain or snow. I have found this to be very convenient when working on getting a fire going or setting up my camp stove.
