LifeProof Nüüd Case

October 14, 2013 by Eric Davis 5 Comments

Water Proof: Fully submergible to 6.6’ / 2 m for 1 hour

Shock Proof: Withstands drops from 6.6’ / 2 m – meets or exceeds MIL STD 810F-516

Nüüd: This means that you can touch the screen. Yes they leave the face exposed.

** Special Note about Nüüd** I was very excited when this feature came out; but once I got this case as well as the new case that’s not “Nüüd” – I realized I was excited because the original version of these cases didn’t do a great job of making the screen seamless. The new LifeProof case for the iPhone 5 is very streamlined and I don’t mind the clear coat at all. So don’t feel like you have to go Nüüd if you don’t want to.

So how often do you really need to submerge your iPhone? Probably just about never; but you don’t submerge an iPhone because you have to. You submerge an iPhone because you want to.

So first – I don’t typically leave on my phone in this case for daily use. I actually don’t like cases for my phones – too bulky. So I keep this case in my backpack and pull it out as needed.  Here’s what I pull it out for.

Surf Photography:

Perfect for taking with me when I surf. I’ll pull it out and get some shots of my buddies or my kids.

Land Navigation:

There are some terrific mapping applications for smartphones. When I’m backpacking I like to map the areas I’m in so that I can easily find them the next time I go out. I’ve also found that I use my camera phone more often than my regular camera. Keeping it safe and dry helps me get it out more often.

Of course the pool:

I work to get underwater pictures and videos of my kids regularly throughout the year. I sort of document their underwater swimming progression this way.

Do you need one?

Yes! It’s one of those things that until you have it you can’t really appreciate what it will allow you to do. It’s just not obvious. Once you realize that you don’t have to keep it on your phone everyday it makes more sense.
