Kershaw Emerson 3 Piece Cook’s Set | Camp ready cutlery

September 17, 2018 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Kershaw Emerson Cook's Set

Ever since I gave up on minimalist camping, having a few conveniences from home while outdoors has been nice. Bottom line, my wife isn’t a minimalist. So in order to get her to accompany me on various adventures, I decided to look into Overland Camping. Basically packing everything into my Tundra and living out of that for a few days. And one of the items necessary for gourmet camp cooking? A decent knife set. In the past, we snagged a few inexpensive knives that didn’t cut worth shit. Fortunately, Kershaw answered the call offering a reasonably priced quality 3 piece Cook’s Set.

Kershaw Emerson 3 Piece Cook’s Set Video Review:

With a heavy influence from famed knifemaker Ernest Emerson, the 3 Piece Cook’s Set is sure to be a winner. As you can see from the shape of the glass filled nylon handle, it has Emerson written all over it. The full tang DIN 1.4116 Steel blades are sharpened to a razor sharp 16* cutting angle on each side. Providing “professional chef like” cutting ability in the wilderness. An added bonus is that these lightweight knives won’t weigh you down should you decide to pack them for a hiking trip either.

The Kershaw Emerson 3 Piece Cook’s Set has been onboard our boat this summer for lunch prep and more importantly drink garnishing. In fact, my wife found out the hard way exactly how sharp these knives are. And possibly exposed their only weakness. The 4.25″ paring knife’s sharpened blade comes dangerously close to the operator’s index finger (see video). Fortunately, it was just a nick but she was annoyed none the less. Additionally, the minimalist blade protectors take a little getting used to. There’s a technique to sliding them on and off safely. So please familiarize yourself before your bandaging a cut in the woods.

Kershaw Emerson Cook's Set

Final thoughts: Although not perfect, the Kershaw Emerson knives are an excellent Cook’s Set for camping. The 3 sizes pretty much cover all the knife duties you could encounter. The weight isn’t a burden. Ergonomically speaking, Mr. Emerson hits the nail on the head every time. And $44.99 sure isn’t going to break the bank. If you are a culinary camper, take a look at the Kershaw Emerson 3 Piece Cook’s Set.
