One of the best features of the Jetboil Flash is its inbuilt starter so matches or a lighter are really only a backup, I have never had to use either as the starter works every time.
One of the biggest considerations when any soldier is going on patrol is weight, with the Jetboil it easily fits into the top of a daypack or a decent sized pouch on a chest rig and because it all fits into the one cup it is easy pack away when finished.
