How to Survive Anything

How to Survive Anything: Get your head in the game

July 16, 2019 by The Loadout Room Leave a Comment

Welcome to our newest series – How to Survive Anything, brought to you by our partners at the Crate Club!

Our goal with this series is simple: provide you with short, easy to digest tips, tricks, skills and lessons that will help better equip you to survive anything life throws at you. We’re pulling from the breadth of our combined military experience, friends in the special operations community, and wilderness survival experts to bring you only the best information in easy to digest chunks!

The first edition of How to Survive Anything touches on the very first thing you need to address in any bad situation: your attitude.

Attitude plays a huge role in survival. Everything is more difficult when you let your nerves get the best of you. The first step toward survival in any set of circumstances is always to calm down and assess your situation with a clear head. Burning energy on panic will only set you back, so redirect that energy toward productive tasks that will pay off in the long run.

If you’re having trouble getting your head in the game, focus on these tasks to help yourself develop a plan:

-Don’t let your mind drift to the unknowable, and instead focus on what’s right in front of you.

-Inventory any gear you have on hand, including food, water, and anything you can use for shelter or signaling.

-Assess your environment for things that may help: high ground, good shelter, a source of water, etc.

As you work through these steps, you’ll find yourself calming down and starting to form a plan — and that’s just what you need to survive.
