Gear Head Works Tailhook Mod 1 | The most compact pistol brace in the world

September 14, 2017 by Loadout Room Guest Authors Leave a Comment

Gear Head Works Tailhook Mod 1

I own a CZ Scorpion pistol and like many of you I was after a brace that closely resembles the factory stock. If you are in the market for a brace with velcro and rubber then there are several options. However, if you desire a meticulously machined piece of hardware, then look no further than the Tailhook Mod 1 by Gear Head Works.

The Tailhook Mod 1 is an ambidextrous platform that is affixed to a buffer tube or in my case an adapter to fit in the scorpion factory stock. I used the Gear Head Works scorpion stock adapter at $19.99 and it provides several lengths of pull options for the shooter. There are also various 3-D printed options for adapters on the market. Weighing in at only 4.5 ounces, the brace is not noticeable while being used and even provides more balance while shooting.

When it’s used as the makers intended, the brace can be deployed immediately by depressing a button and can be done with a single hand, unlike most braces with straps that require two hands to use.

During operation, the brace is extremely comfortable and I had no complaints.

If I could modify the existing platform I would include a magnet to prevent the arm from swinging freely while folded. The factory stock uses a metal plate in combination with a magnet to allow the shooter to fire the pistol while in the folded position
