Mollie Tibbetts, a University of Iowa student, disappeared on July 18, 2018, while jogging near her home in Brooklyn, Iowa. After a month-long search, police identified 24-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera as a suspect using surveillance camera footage that showed his car following her on her jog. He led police to her body in a Poweshiek County cornfield on August 21 and was charged with first-degree murder. Mollie would have started her junior year this fall.
Hard to say what precautions would have prevented this tragedy: tighter immigration laws, running with a friend, or knowledge of self-defense.
It’s tragedies like these that remind us how important it is to take every precaution, and you can never be too safe.
One of the most recent products in the Crate Club is Tactikey. Tactikey is an ideal alternative solution for those who don’t want to carry a knife or other overbearingly large self-defense devices like a Kubotan and it’s a great alternative to mace. The Tactikey is small, strong, and non-threatening in appearance, providing the element of surprise in a defensive situation.
