Graham Baates

Graham Baates “Graham Baates” is a pen name used by a 15-year active Army veteran who spent most of his time in the tactical side of the Intelligence community including tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. Post-Army Graham spent some time in the 3-Gun circuit before becoming a full-time NRA Certified defensive handgun instructor. After more than 1,900 hours instructing he now works as an industry writer while curating a YouTube channel on the side.

Watch: First Look Kahr S9

Kahr arms has long been recognized for providing quality American-made handguns in both their Value lines and Premium lines.  One feature that both lines have been missing and some shooters (your truly included) is the existence of forward cocking serrations.  That has been remedied with the new S Series and Kahr S9.  We got the […]

Ultimate Bullpup? The Jard J68 Pistol-Caliber Carbine

Earlier we gave you a first look at the new Jard J68 in 9mm.  Since then a few things have come to light that you should know before watching the video below.  Jard Inc makes nearly everything in house, including their barrels.  The exterior design was inspired by the need for a true “truck gun” […]

Caracal Limited Edition Enhanced Model F: Graham Baates Video

Watch: First Look Caracal Limited Edition Enhanced Model F

As a purveyor of gun-things-different the Caracal pistol had my attention at SHOT 2016.  What I didn’t know was that the Caracal Model F had actually been in development since 2002, and had already made a brief appearance in the United States while I was over in Afghanistan (2005).  The original model had to make […]

Jard J68 Pistol Caliber Carbine Fun: Graham Baates

Watch Jard J68 9mm: Pistol Caliber Carbine = Fun

The Jard J68 is made from a simple formula. Pistol-caliber carbine = fun.  Bullpup = handy.  Pistol-caliber carbine bullpup that accepts Glock magazines = Jard J68.  In other words, I’m really looking forward to some trigger time with the Jard J68. Jard is a company based in Iowa and known for their superb triggers.  If […]

Copper Basin Takedown Backpack, Comfortably Discreet: Graham Baates Video

Watch: Copper Basin Takedown Backpack, Comfortably Discreet

Copper Basin has a bag specifically designed for the Ruger 10/22 Takedown.  We don’t own a Ruger 10/22, but were willing to take a chance, besides with a bag so well-built, how could we go wrong? The bag has the look and feel of something you might pick up at REI.  There isn’t a hint […]

Watch: Smith & Wesson M&P .380 Shield EZ First Look

Smith & Wesson has been updating and upgrading their lineup over the last year.  The M&P 2.0 series quieted previous complaints about texture and trigger.  We showed you the new Shield 2.0 in November.  The Bodyguard hadn’t been updated and fans of Browning’s .380 ACP began to feel left out.  Smith & Wesson heard those […]

“You Like Guns That Nobody Else Wants”

Just Because a Gun is in a Magazine Doesn’t Mean it’s the Right One For You I like to cover a lot of guns that aren’t seen in grocery-store magazines, and for a couple of reasons.  First, common guns bore me.  If I can go to three gun shops and see the same firearm at the […]

Cops Can Carry Nationwide: The Legal Brief Explains

Holster Selection

During my 1,900 hours as a defensive shooting instructor one of the dominating questions I was asked was about holster selection.  In my experience this is the hardest one to answer.  I have good news and bad new for you:  The perfect holster match for your body shape, selected firearm, carry position, and attire exists.  […]
