First Look: Thureon Defense 9mm PCC

First Look: Thureon Defense 9mm PCC
Source: Thureon Defense

Continuing our coverage of pistol-caliber carbines we were alerted to Thureon Defense.  The now cliche questions are always, “Does it take Glock mags?”, and “Does it come in 10mm?”.  The answer to both is YES.

Thureon Defense is a small specialty company based in Germantown, WI.  What do they specialize in?  TRUE pistol-caliber carbines!  These rifles are designed and built from the ground up for pistol calibers, not adaptations of existing parts.  Their 7075 billet receivers are appropriately sized for pistol calibers.

Why should you care?  Because that makes for a smaller, more compact, and lighter rifle.  Upper, lower, bolt, and buffer are all organic designs made in house at Thureon.  When I first learned of the company I was eager to get my hands on one but had to wait a few weeks due to the start of deer season.

As I’m sure you can imagine I was a bit thrown off by this delay.  What does deer season have to do with PCC?  The answer is 10mm.  Thureon makes these rifles in 9mm, .40 S&W, .45acp, and 10mm and can build them to accept magazines from Glock, Sig Sauer, Springfield XD, or Smith & Wesson M&P.  How’s that for options?  If you’re not a Glock guy you’re not stuck sourcing Glock magazines.  This peaked my interested because while I have a mountain of 9mm Glock magazines, I don’t in .45acp.  My .45acp days were spent with a Springfield XDm.

Giving basic specifications is a little tricky.  With five different models, five different caliber options, four different magazine type options, and the option for a left-handed model  Thureon has a plethora of options.  Below is a basic build like the one in the video above.
