I like to think I can be a creative individual. Sometimes I can see an item and have an idea about how I can repurpose it to suit my needs. One such item was the M320 holster by Blue Force Gear. I was enjoying their Spring sale and ran across the M320 holster. Instantly something clicked. I had only recently purchased a Kel Tec Sub 2000 Gen 2. Normally I’d have no use for an M320 holster, but with the Kel Tec Sub 2000’s folding ability I came up with an idea. I did a quick check of both the M320 measurements and Kel Tec Sub 2000 dimensions. Guess what? I just found a Kel Tec Sub 2000 holster.
How exactly is this a Kel Tec Sub 2000 Holster?
The ability of the Kel Tec Sub 2000 to fold allows it to fit inside the M320 holster from Blue Force Gear almost perfectly. The Sub 2k is thinner than the M320, but the adjustable straps make fitting it easy. For total and complete retention I attached the bungee cable to my vertical foregrip. This is the only modification you have to make to your rifle to ensure great retention. I used the Mission First Tactical folding foregrip to keep the package as compact as possible.
Attaching my new Kel Tec Sub 2000 holster to a variety of gear is simple due to the holster’s MOLLE webbing. I could attach it to a war belt, which I did. On the right-hand side, I could toss a pistol holster and have a belt with both a rifle and pistol on it. Theoretically, if the pistol is a Glock 17 it can even share magazines with the rifle. Being on a belt is one thing, but the real advantage, in my opinion, is the ability to attach the holster to a pack.
The Sub 2k is an excellent option for a hiking or even a bug out gun. It’s lightweight, easy to stash, and gives you a more effective range than a pistol. My improvised Kel Tec Sub 2000 holster makes it easy to carry attached to a pack, a belt, or even a plate carrier. It can be staged and ready to rock and roll at a moment’s notice.
Day to Day use
I’m a big fan of the Sneaky Bags brand of weapon’s bags. They are designed to conceal and carry a rifle, fighting load, and more without raising an eye. The inside of many of them features a MOLLE panel. This makes it easy to carry the Kel Tec Sub 2000 in one of these bags. The holster ensures its in the same place at all times and makes it easy to draw from the bag, especially if you put the practice in. The holster protects the gun pretty well and keeps the chamber protected.
Construction
Like all of Blue Force Gear’s equipment, it is designed to last. You’ll notice the MultiCam nature doesn’t fit with any of my camo. This holster is specifically made for soldiers in the US Army utilizing the M320. I’d love a black or OD green model, but that’s a minor complaint. The holster arrives as what’s basically a piece of thick square material. You utilize the velcro attachments, and buckles to form it into a proper holster. It will also lay completely flat when not in use. The hook and loop are top-notch, as is the buckle system. The MOLLE straps is Helium Whisper, and the entire holster is constructed from ULTRAComp.
Overall
This Kel Tec Sub 2000 holster improvisation isn’t something you carry on a day-to-day basis but is an excellent option for a unique little rifle. This gives you an effective means of carrying the rifle without a sling. It’s a well-made holster, and incredibly durable. It isn’t made for quick draw in any way, but can be accessed quickly with practice, even in a pack. If you have a SUB 2K and are desiring a Kel Tec Sub 2000 holster to tote it around I would certainly give the Blue Force Gear M320 holster a spin. As far as I know it’s the only real option.
