A Review of Bug A Salt: The Original Salt Gun For Flies

August 2, 2022 by Allia Luzong Leave a Comment

There are a ton of options on the market if you’re looking for a tool that kills bugs, but the strangest among them has to be salt guns for flies. Now, if you’ve never heard of salt guns before, you might be wondering what that is and if its just a name for some kind of chemical spray.

But salt guns for flies are really just plastic guns that spray salt at flies and strangely enough, they work, turning regular table salt into deadly projectiles that crash against tiny fly bodies and pulverize them.

A Look At the Bug A Salt Salt Gun For Flies

Salt guns are a fun way to turn killing flies to a sport for the whole family. Who needs fly swatters when you have a salt gun that lets you have your own mini paintball game in your living room? While there are a ton of salt guns for flies available now, the best one is still the original from Bug A Salt.

Bug A Salt’s Salt Guns are the original salt guns for flies. Originally patented in 2012 after being created Lorenzo Maggiore as a tool for killing flies at a distance. After patenting, the Bug A Salt Gun was put on Indiegogo where it was able to raise over $577,000. Unlike many Indiegogo projects, Maggiore managed to deliver an excellent product that did exactly what it was advertized to do.

The Bug A Salt salt gun for flies was promised to be an insect hunting tool that functioned like a miniature shotgun, allowing users to shoot flies up to three feet away from them.

Since then, the Bug A Salt gun has had several updates geared towards making it more efficient and powerful. They’re currently on their third edition, the Bug A Salt 3.0 for flies, which is effective for flies, cockroaches, mosquitos, and other small insects.

Are Bug A Salt Guns Actually Effective?

That depends on what you expect a Bug A Salt gun to be able to do. While it’s certainly effective for killing individual bugs, it’s not exactly a permanent, let alone all-around solution for exterminating pests in your home.

You’ll need to pair it with more effective blanket techniques such as regularly cleaning your home and doing following it up by spraying your home’s nooks and crannies to ensure that you don’t have freshly hatched bugs left in unseen corners of your home.

Of course, your Bug A Salt gun is only as effective as your use of it so make sure to get familiar with the operation process for your salt gun for flies.

Our Verdict On the Bug A Salt Salt Gun For Flies

So onto the big question: Is the Bug A Salt salt gun for flies actually any good? And the short answer to that is yes.

It does exactly what it’s advertised to do, it rarely jams, and it’s incredibly fun to use. The plastic is sturdy and doesn’t feel cheap. If you need something to mentally compare it to, imagine the build quality of a Nerf gun.

Honestly, it’s a simple tool and deciding whether or not you should get one only comes down to whether you’d enjoy shooting flies over spraying your house with bug spray.

Our 4 Picks for the Best Salt Gun For Flies

If you’ve decided to get a Bug A Salt salt gun for flies for use in your home, you’re in luck because right now, Bug A Salt lets you choose between several designs and editions. Right now, they have salt guns in camo, black, and yellow color combinations.

1. Bug A Salt Realtree Camo 3.0

The Bug A Salt Realtree Camo 3.0 is one of Bug A Salt’s coolest designs for their salt gun for flies as of now. The camo effect you see on the body of the salt gun is a water transfer design that creates this smooth, continuous camo pattern around the body of the salt gun.

It has a stronger spring compared to earlier models, allowing it to shoot with a little more force than its predecessors, though don’t count on its reach going much further than the typical 3-foot range of most Bug A Salt guns.

2. Bug A Salt Reverse Yellow 2.5

The Bug A Salt Reverse Yellow 2.5 features improved sighting that allows you to target flies and other insects better. While it isn’t quite as powerful as the 3.0, it’s advantage comes in the form of a lower strength requirement since its easier to cock.

3. Bug A Salt 3.0 Black Fly Edition

The Bug A Salt 3.0 Black Fly Edition is another 3.0 edition Bug A Salt gun weighing about 2 pounds. It features a new rapid fire Cross Bolt Safety that lets you shoot down flies at record speeds, that is, if you’re feeling competitive against your other fly-shooting companions.

4. Bug A Salt Army Green 2.5
