Lance Cpl. Seth M. Richardson, a Carbondale, Illinois, native, prepares to fire an M40A5 sniper rifle Aug. 17 at the Central Training Area in Okinawa, Japan. The M40A5 rifle is a bolt-action sniper rifle with a muzzle velocity of 2,550 feet per second and an effective firing range of up to 900 meters.
