6 Reasons the Lansky Controlled-Angle System Should be Your First Sharpener

It is often said that sharpening is not something that you can pick up in a day or even a month. It takes time, energy, and effort to develop the skills required to put a keen edge on your favorite blades.

But the learning process can be helped along by starting out with the right system. Here are six reasons why the Lansky Controlled-Angle Sharpening System should be your first sharpener.

Intuitive and Easy
The Lansky takes the guesswork out of the learning process. Choose your angle – 17, 20, 25, or 30 degrees – and the guide rod sets the stone at the right portion of the knife’s edge.

The system will prevent you from making mistakes and ensures that you’re developing a consistent bevel angle all along the edge. It also provides you with the feedback to know whether or not you are using the right stone and when it’s time to switch to a higher (finer) or lower (coarser) grit.

You know you’re making progress and it’s time to move to a higher grit when you can feel a burr along the edge. No burr? That means you need to spend some more time working on the edge. If you’re still not feeling a burr you know it’s time to move back down to a lower grit.
