Tuff Writer Mini Click Pen | Precision writing instrument and impact weapon

Tuff Writer Mini Click Pen | Precision writing instrument and impact weapon

I prefer a quality made writing instrument just as much as I prefer a quality watch and knife. Owning and carrying a quality pen is a gentleman thing. For the savage gentleman though, you’ll want a pen that is not only quality, but is able to be used as an improvised weapon. You’re not always going to have access to a gun or a knife, especially if you’re traveling. Being able to layer other improvised weapons on your person is a force multiplier.

We published an article previously on using a pen as an improvised impact weapon and even recommended a few off the shelf options. Those off the shelf options are great, but sometimes you’re going to want an upgrade for other reasons. Maybe it’s a status thing and you want to run with the best there is, maybe it’s because you want to support a specific company or maybe you just want to feel like James Bond. Whatever your reason is, I have a great upgraded option to those off the shelf pens.

Tuff Writer makes several versions of precision writing instruments. Today we’re going to take a look at the Mini Click Pen. Mine happens to be in their Sniper Grey color option. You may be asking yourself what sets the Tuff Writer pens apart from the others in the industry. I’ll let Tuff Writer explain that….

Most pen mechanisms are made from brass or plastic (easier and cheaper to manufacture but not as durable). We decided to go nuts and machine ours out of 416 stainless steel (a harder more durable material). We also opted to have them CNC’ed on a swiss-type lathe which is more expensive, but much more precise way of machining (tolerances of less than .0005″ all day long on a Citizen L-20). The G-Code programming re-traces the race tool paths to debur all edges. This takes more time but allows the chrome steel bearing to glide smoothly and the mechanism to cycle like butter. The 416SS and chrome steel will wear better and last much longer than any other similar mechanism available. This is complete overkill for a pen mechanism but we work hard to make the finest American made pens and feel that you’ll appreciate the quality and attention to detail as much as we do.

The Mini Click pen is just a smaller version of the full-sized precision pen that Tuff Writers manufacturers.

From the Tuff Writer website:

Like the slightly larger Precision Press, the Mini-Click Pen it is entirely modular with each component being easily replaceable and built to last a lifetime. The standard pen utilizes an all metal body machined out of 6061-T6 Aluminum. A clip, pressed out of spring steel and coated for durability and corrosion resistance, helps keep the pen securely fastened and close at hand. Instead of a spacer the pen uses a 2-56 screw threaded into the refill to adjust spacing and allows the pen to accommodate of multiple cartridges (any Fisher or Parker sized refill). The Mini-Click also uses our now famous 416SS machined advancing mechanism for silky smooth and reliable operation (so smooth, it doesn’t even “click”). Finally for grip and comfort, the pen body has removable contrasting black Buna-70 o-rings which assist in maintaining a positive grip on the pen when you need it most.

The Tuff Writer Mini Click Pen is a durable precision writing instrument that doesn’t scream tactical. A combination of the brushed aluminum finish and rubber o’rings provide an outstanding grip whether writing or fighting for your life.
