Gobi Gear SegSac Traveler | Minimalist Packing

Gobi Gear SegSac Traveler Review

For those that like to travel light and far, there are often certain limitations that prevent them from doing so efficiently. One limitation is the weight of the bag used to carry their personal belongings, and the other is the disorganization that is usually seen when carrying a variety of items. The Gobi Gear SecSac Traveler, formerly known as the HoboRoll, is the perfect solution to these problems.

First off, I think it’s important to talk about what the SegSac Traveler is, and what it can be used for. This bag is an organizational bag that features 5 separate compartments (6 if you include the hidden pocket, but more on that later). The Traveler is basically a stuff sack, but with all the compartments needed to organize your clothing, gear, etc. It is made of Cordura-Brand, ultralight, ripstop 30D nylon, which brings the total empty weight to 3.5 ounces.

When you receive the Traveler, it is already self-contained in a small zippered pouch. Once you unzip it, the main compartment unfolds out of itself and the zippered pouch is pushed into a small hidden compartment. There are 5 compartments separated by the ripstop material, but there is also a hidden pocket within one of the main compartments that allows you to store small items such as a key ring or wallet.

The bag is able to be opened on either end with cord locks, which makes it very easy to access your belongings. Initially, you close one of these ends and begin loading your bag with everything you’ll need. For a day hike, you may store some extra socks, shirts, water, sunscreen, and any other items you may use. Once you’ve loaded the bag, you close the open end and turn it on its side. The bag features a compression strap system with buckles made of aircraft grade aluminum. Also on either end are attachment points for a shoulder strap, which is sold separately.

The traveler can be used as a stuff sack to be thrown into a larger bag or just as a day bag on its own. At 18.5 liters, this bag can really hold whatever you may find yourself needing. I’ve recently started using it to load up everything I need for work. I put in a couple shirts and socks, keys, flashlight, wallet, and gym clothes for after work. Since it’s water resistant, I don’t mind walking into work on those rainy days because I know my stuff will stay dry.

I love the versatility of this bag, because when I get home I can take my work stuff out and load up things I need to take my boys out to the park for the afternoon. The SegSac Traveler really is a do-it-all kind of bag that I highly recommend for anyone that wants to keep their stuff organized in a lightweight configuration.

You can get yours from the Gobi Gear website for $39.99
