Training on a Budget? Umarex NXG APX Kit

I received a very cool package the other day. It was the Umarex NXG APX kit! This is a BB/pellet rifle manufactured by Umarex a company known for its quality BB, pellet and airsoft guns. Here are the details of the NXG (next generation) APX rifle.

Details

The Next Generation APX from Umarex USA is the genesis of modern youth air rifles. It redefines the standard of airguns designed for younger and small-framed shooters with a multitude of modern-day features that includes an automatic safety-a feature never before seen on a pneumatic rifle of this type.

The dual ammunition APX features a progressive stock design that’s ergonomic, modern and impact resistant. Its grip is designed with a narrow curve that’s comfortable for shooters with smaller hands creating better control and a safer shooting environment. Its multi-pump action and easy-load pellet ramp is easy to use for right or left-handed shooters and it deploys alloy projectiles up to a velocity of 800 feet per second at maximum air charge.

The adjustable rear sight and fiber optic front sight protected by its sleek muzzle brake allows you to quickly zero in on your intended target when shooting either pellets or steel BBs. Mounting a scope to the APX is easy with its integrated tactical-style scope mounting rail system-another first in youth air rifles that provides a positive lock down to keep a scope on zero. All of these features combine to make shooting the Umarex Next Generation APX a target-busting experience for shooters of many ages.

First in its class with an Auto Safety!

Strong, Impact Resistant Stock

Integrated Rail for Easy Scope Mounting

The rifle comes nicely packaged. The box contains the rifle, BB’s, pellets, safety glasses, instruction manual and scope. Upon opening the box and removing the rifle, safety glasses, BB’s and pellets make sure you check the triangular shaped box near the barrel. It is not just a filler piece but contains the scope!! The rifle is an adjustable pump from 2 to 10 pumps. No more than 10 pumps are recommended for this rifle. The rifle, when shooting pellets is a single shot .177 caliber and holds approximately 75 steel BB’s. To load BB’s turn rifle with bolt facing down, open BB loading port and carefully pour in the BB’s. If shooting pellets unload any BB’s from the rifle by opening BB port while holding rifle with bolt side facing up and shake out all of the BB’s before attempting to load a pellet. To pump the rifle for firing make sure to pull the bolt back and then start the pumping procedure, if not it will not pump up. Remember 10 is the maximum number of pumps! When the pump handle is opened the gun automatically goes on safety. To load a BB after the reservoir is filled hold the gun at a 45 to 90 degree position with the muzzle straight up and a BB should load on the magnetic tip. To fire push bolt forward and take off the safety.

The scope included is a 4X15, adjustable for clarity, elevation and windage and is sufficient for airgun use. The open sights are also very good with the front sight being fiber optic mounted on the simulated muzzle brake. The stock is very durable and built to take minor impacts. The integrated scope mounting rail could also be used for mounting a scope of your choice if you choose to do so.

For an indoor test I set up a target with proper backstop about 20’ away, accuracy with the open sights was actually pretty good once adjusted and I promise no children or animals were harmed!! I set up a target in the back yard and used a thick phonebook as a stop. At 25’ and accuracy was still very good with the open sights. I then mounted the 4X15 power scope and after sighting it in proved to be very effective. I shot the target with no more than 4 pumps which proved to be more than sufficient at that range.

Remember, always be aware of your surroundings and wear proper eye protection and ear protection if required when using the NXG APX BB/pellet rifle. This rifle has a velocity of 800 ft. per second so please use caution. I can definitely recommend this BB/pellet rifle to anyone looking for maybe a first firearm for their child or just for plinking in the backyard, if allowed in your area. I have quite a few BB guns but this is by far one of the neatest I have used. I cannot stress it enough, please do not aim at anything you do not intend on shooting, safety first whether it is a BB gun or real firearm.
