Today I spoke with the guys in the inventory department of Hyatt Guns. According to Fox News, Hyatt is the largest independently owned specialty gun store in America. (You may remember them from this story.) With their size in mind, I thought that a list of their top ten best sellers might prove an interesting market sample. I wondered if there would be any surprises on the list. It turns out that the list was remarkably predictable, but equally telling.
Here they are, Hyatt Gun’s top 10 sellers of 2013:
#1 S&W Bodyguard 380 .380 ACP
#2 Ruger LCP .380 ACP
#3 Glock 19 Gen 4 9mm
#4 S&W M&P Shield 9mm
#5 S&W M&P 1522 .22 LR
#6 S&W M&P15 SPT .223 Rem
#7 Springfield XD-S .45 ACP
#8 Remington 870 Express Tactical 12 ga.
#9 S&W M&P Shield .40 S&W
#10 Ruger 10/22 TD .22 LR
If this sample is any indication of what happened in other gun stores last year, and I suspect that it is, it appears that pocket guns (and slightly larger concealed carry options) are continuing to grow in popularity. In addition, it looks like the resulting trend toward single stack guns is more than a blip on the radar. It appears that the U.S. market continues to abide recalls without overwhelming hesitation. Without a doubt, we see that America still loves her black rifles. In fact, a market majority are determined to have their very own. Lastly, it seems that the old stand-bys like the Glock 19, Ruger 10/22, and Remington 870 continue to, well, stand by; don’t look for them to be unseated in the near future.
What are your top 10 guns from 2013?
