It is always interesting to see what the pros carry. The New York Police Department is famously finicky about their choice of guns. They put a lot of thought and research into any gun they authorize, on or off duty. They are concerned with performance and absolute reliability.
Springfield Armory has announced that effective April 7, 2016, a special edition of the XD-S 9mm was approved by the NYPD. Off-Duty uniformed officers may now carry the XD-S 9mm pistol off duty.
The streets of New York are a little safer.
