Each year at the SHOT Show, there are always a few releases that truly surprise me, (A single stack Glock in .380?) and conversely, there are offerings that just make sense. This year has its share of both categories for me. Two examples of predictable releases originate from Springfield Armory. A new 1911 Range Officer in 9mm? Yes. That makes sense to me. The longer barrel option offered for the XDS 9mm platform (XDS 4.0) isn’t a reach either. But, on the other side of the spectrum, Kel-Tec has surprised me with one new gun in particular this year. The Kel-Tec RDB is a ambidextrous, downward ejecting bull pup chambered in .223/5.56. Now that is one rifle configuration that I didn’t expect from Kel-Tec. Although I’m pleasantly surprised, one has to wonder how effectively the release will be managed and how well the rifle will perform given the issues reported with the KSG.
