Industry Profile: SLR Rifleworks

SLR Rifleworks is a small manufacturing facility just west of Orlando Florida that has steadily built its self-up the last few years and has begun an assault on the firearms accessory market. The company is best known for their handguards for both AR-15’s and AK series rifles, but they offer much more than that. The Sentry line of clamp on adjustable gas block for the AR-15 (US Patent # 5,410,756) is another one of the products that SLR Rifleworks has designed and continued to refine in order to make the best product available for shooters. They offer the complete line of Sentry gas blocks in Titanium and in several diameters to meet a wide range of shooting needs.

The AK Rails

I first became aware of SLR Rifleworks while I was searching for parts for my Saiga Rifle projects, it was during this time I found the companies Instagram feed and was hooked. As universal as the AK series of rifles may seem, there are in fact many small differences between the various brands and models on the market. This is where finding quality aftermarket fore ends and rails becomes problematic. There is a wide range of tolerances and differences between rifles that make up the AK-47 inspired rifles like the Zastavas, the Arsenals, the Saigas, and the Romanian AK’s. Most of the differences center on the thickness of the receivers and the amount of free space between the barrel and the receiver.

I mention all of that to lay the ground work so you can understand how much thinking had to go into the research, design and construction of the SLR Rifleworks AK Rails. That being said the company offers an astounding 58 different styles of rail systems that covers nearly every AK pattern rifle available on the market. Let that sink in for a minute. In that list of 58 different rails are all of the common things you would want to be covered, different barrel lengths, as well as different features such as picitinny rail, M-Lok or KeyMod systems, if you have an AK rifle and you want to ditch the laminate or wood rail you should check out SLR Rifleworks rails, if they don’t have something that fits your needs, you might be too picky or just not know what you really want in the first place.

The way that they are able to accommodate so many different variations in the different AK rifles on the market it by using a system where they essentially build the same rail but have a block that

The AR-15 Rails

The AR-15 accessory market is by far one of the most competitive in the firearms industry so in order to set themselves apart from the usual players in the game SLR Rifleworks did something a little different. They listened to the needs of their customers and actually gave them what they wanted, and that is lots of options to choose from. The company has three separate lines of rails, the Ion Series, Helix Series, and the Solo Series. Each series offers a little something different than the others and are available in all the major styles that are on the market, M-Lok, KeyMod and picitinny rail. Some of the rails are designed to fit tightly around specific brands of sound suppressors such as the AAC family of suppressors. Other models feature low profile side sections then flare to have small sections of picitinny rails, these models are especially useful to shooters who intend to use a bipod and don’t want to add any extra parts.

Receivers and More

In terms of AR-15’s at least SLR Rifleworks is almost a one stop shop. They recently have been offering a very well-built and stylish billet AR-15 receiver milled in-house out of 7075 Aluminum. In addition to the lower they also produce their SLR-15 billet upper receiver of the same 7075 Aluminum completely in-house, no third part nameless vendor here, just skilled craftsman using a shop full of high-speed modern machinery. The billet receiver set isn’t light weighing in at a combined 15.11 Oz but I have no doubt that it will provide years of service with little to no issues. We have decided to order a set for a future build here at the web site but details on that will be coming in the fall or early winter.
