The most recent shooting that happened on the Las Vegas Strip is still fresh in our hearts and minds, and being analyzed by forensics experts, law enforcement personnel and mental health experts. While they scour through mountains of papers, videos and records to piece together the puzzle of the shooters life there is a hideous monster that has been awaken by this tragedy, and that is the rabid Leftist Anti Gunners. It was with lightning quick action that after the incident the defacto leader of the anti gun coalition, California Senator Dianne Feinstein started making statements and filed a bill to ban devices like the Slidefire stocks that the Las Vegas shooter had used. Gun Control was back in the news and across the headlines of every paper in the world.
What Can We Assume ?
We can assume that the largely anti gun Democrats and their Socialist pals will grab the page out of old Saul Alinsky’s manifesto and not let a tragedy go to waste. Even as late as 2009 anti gun Democrats like Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has repeated the mantra in interviews and haven’t hid their intentions to erode the 2nd Amendment at any chance they can get. Make no mistake, the Anti Gunners will work lots of overtime in Washington D.C. crafting a bill that will seek to put gun rights back into the post 1994 days. That in simple terms that means expect them to ask for a wide range of weapons and accessories to be restricted or banned.
I’m  not writing this to sound outlandish, or to be a fear monger, I’m writing this because our old adversaries have found a new cause to rally around and work people into an emotional frenzy. I was told years ago by men much older and wiser than me “Never make an important decision when you are too emotional” . Many people don’t heed that advise and will fall for the emotional pleas of the anti gunners. They won’t look at the statistics about the likelihood of mass shootings or the fact that more people are killed annually by medical malpractice than by mass shooters.
We have quickly thrown together a list of accessories or rifle types that we feel the Anti Gunners will attempt to ban or things they will try to enact during this session of Congress, well right after they are done going after the Slidefire or “bumpfire” stocks. We hope we are totally wrong on this, but it doesn’t take a genius to see the writing on the wall.
The ListÂ
- Magazine Capacity Limits
- Mandatory Waiting Periods
- Limit the Number of Guns A Person Can Purchase in a Year
- Trigger Device Ban
- Limits on Ammo Purchases
- Military Style Firearm Ban
- Pistol Grip Ban
- New Licensing Requirements
- Larger “Gun Free Zones”
- More “Must Report” Rules for Mental Health Professionals
The Future ?
The future isn’t set in stone but we can pretty much bet that the next few months will be stressful for many gun owners and hopefully people don’t lose their common sense. If the last few days is any indication of how the next few months is going to be then it will be interesting. One shop I went into said they hadn’t seen any panic buying of 30 round magazines or ammunition. A smaller shop I went to said they had already reordered more Magpul magazines because they were running low from people coming in buying 10 or 12 at a time. I suspect as more media coverage shines on the proposals the anti gunners are working on we may see that panic start to set in again.
A good friend of mine told me that his rule of thumb for firearms is to have 10 magazines for whatever guns he actually owns. Now this may sound like an extravagant amount to some, but if you shoot often or train with any regularity you will begin to see his wisdom. Shortly after hearing this I began to mimic my friends actions and now I don’t worry nearly as much about reloading magazines at the range. It makes shooting easier knowing I have backups to my backups so to speak. In the next few months if I was wanting to get anymore 30 round magazines I would start shopping around before prices climb and the chiselers come out and manipulate prices.
In closing I want to say there are no hard and fast rules for what happens after mass shooter incidents like the Las Vegas tragedy. There are the things we know happen that cover the normal range of human emotions. Shock, Anger, Sadness, etc. but short of that nothing is absolute. The variable in all of this is will people look at the madman and see that often times acts of terrible violence happen with little warning and put the blame where it belongs, on the person ? I’m not too sure on this one, this is the worst civilian shooting in United States History, only second to the Wounded Knee Massacre which wasn’t committed by a civilian entity. This whole event comes at a time when the divide between pro and anti gun parties had been shrinking to some extent. I hope I’m wrong but I’m not going to hedge the enjoyment of my 2nd Amendment Rights on Dianne Feinstein suddenly using common sense and logic.
Have you seen any price gouging or shrinking amounts of ammunition and gear in your area? If you have, drop us a line in the comments section this is an aspect of the aftermath that many of us will be watching closely.
