Elite Tactical Systems, makes very good translucent polymer AR15 magazines with molded in couplers. They just got better with Advanced Combat Solutions’ blue AR15 magazine followers with a tritium insert. Combined with the ETS’s transparent AR15 magazines, you can always tell what time it is in a gunfight: Time to shoot, time to reload or time to run.
I like coupled magazines. A loaded 30 round mag weighs about a pound and a half. This makes your gun heavier, but gives a very fast reload with good retention. As a right handed shooter, I put the extra mag on the right so that when I reload it is on the opposite side of the ejection port.
Tritium is a weak radioactive form of hydrogen. Commonly used in night sights for handguns, it is harmless unless you swallow it.. It has a faint glow that can been seen in the dark with night adapted eyes from the back of the gun, but not by an adversary a few feet away. This is what they look like in day light. The blue follower stands out making a quick check with peripheral vision easy.
This is what they look like in the dark. My camera doesn’t do this justice. It is easy for the shooters (This was taken from the shooters viewpoint) to see how many rounds are in the mag. Once the follower has retreated into the magazine well you will no longer see the dot and should recognize the need for speed. Since tritium has such a low level of luminescence, it is not a significant danger of revealing your position.
If you use an AR15 for home defense you can find your loaded gun or extra mags a little faster like nights sights on a handgun.
Right now, ETS magazine with the Advanced Combat Solutions Tritium follower is available on ETS website for $33.99 and the Advanced Combat Solutions follower alone is $15.99

Half of every Day is Night.
It is always dark inside.
Nothing good happens after mid-night.
