CMMG Anvil Hog buster – Shot Show 2017

CMMG Anvil

The CMMG Anvil is a beast of a rifle. Big, strong, and using a round that ranges in weight from 140 grains to 500 and up. These heavier rounds are perfect for suppressor use because they are subsonic. This monster fires the 458 Socom and is superbly powerful. The Anvil is an excellent hunting option for busting hogs, bear, or other big creatures that are tasty and easy to BBQ.

What’s awesome is the fact it uses an AR 15 magazine that has slightly modified feed lips. The magazines in use were Lancer magazines, and the metal feed lips are easy to bend to ensure proper feeding. A 30 round Lancer mag can hold 10 rounds of 458 Socom.

The gun is a bit beefier than an AR 15, but not as big as an AR 10. It’s a little hefty too, but completely controllable, and easy to handle. It comes with a Mlok rail, and Magpul stock and pistol grip. It’s a big bore AR that is a blast to shoot.

Shooting The CMMG Anvil

At a private range day, I had the pleasure of firing the Anvil with a can attached. It fed reliably from Lancer mags and was surprisingly low recoil. It wasn’t as soft as an AR 15, but no harder than an AR 10. A wide variety of shooters of sizes handled and fired the weapon at range day, from monsters like me to a petite British woman.

The Geissele trigger makes shooting it smooth and crisp and there is an adjustable gas system to deal with the wide variety of rounds.

It was a blast to fire, and from what I could tell was pretty accurate. It was also nice and quiet with a can on so hogs better keep an eye out for this monster and the hunter wielding it. Check it out here.
