Bipods used to clamp on sling swivel studs, back when stocks were wood and every rifle had a sling. The Picatinny rail, or 1913 rail is a mounting bracket developed to standardize mounts.

In the early 1980’s, the A.R.M.S. company sought to standardize the Weaver mounts popular with hunters. The Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey, USA later tested the rail and created the military standard, Mil-STD-1913. I have to shoot a lot of rifles. I like bipods, they are a convenient stable platform for prone shooting. I generally like short bi-pods but sometimes you need a high bi-pod to shoot over grass or elevations. With a quick throw lever cam, these bibipods mount and dismount to any rifle with a rail section. I can take two bipods (high and low) and shoot may rifles from different positions.
