SIG Sauer wins contract for new spec ops riflescope

The United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has chosen SIG Sauer to provide America’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) with a new riflescope and gun mount.

More specifically, the gun company won a contract for the Electro-Optics TANGO6T 1-6×24 Second Focal Plane (SFP) Riflescope and ALPHA4 Ultralight Mount.

According to SIG Sauer, the TANGO6T 1-6×24 Rifle scope is “a second focal plane, ruggedized riflescope with a Flat Dark Earth (FDE) anodized aircraft-grade aluminum main tube.” It has an M855A1 Bullet Drop Compensation (BDC) illuminated reticle with the different options for Close Quarters Battle (CQB) and engagements at medium range. Additionally, it comes with a red Hellfire fiber optic illumination system for quick target acquisition during daylight engagements, Power Selector Ring (PSR) throw lever, and a laser-marked scope level pointer for fast-mount emplacement.

The TANGO6T 1-6×24 Riflescope (SIG Sauer).

In a press release, Andy York, president of SIG Sauer Electro-Optics, the company’s division that will manufacture the scope, said: “The TANGO6T riflescope line combines ruggedized MIL-SPEC810-G mechanical systems and HDX high-definition optical design with advanced electronic technologies. We are firmly committed to supporting the Department of Defense with this riflescope to provide greater adaptability, increased lethality, and enhanced target acquisition for our Special Operations Forces.”

With regard to the ALPHA4 Ultralight Mount, it was designed explicitly for the TANGO6T riflescope series. It is made of aluminium and is anodized in order to be better protected from adverse weather conditions.

Ron Cohen, president and CEO of SIG Sauer, Inc., added: “We are honored to receive an additional award for our TANGO6T series of riflescopes for use with our elite forces, and to be recognized for our commitment to providing equipment that performs and adapts to the most critical mission requirements. We are also very proud that we were successful in our first submission for our ALPHA4 Ultralight Mount, and that it was recognized for quality and durability through this award.”

The famous gun manufacturer has a long history with America’s SOF. Previously, it has specifically designed and produced the SIG Sauer P226 pistol for use by the Navy SEALs. The 9mm handgun even had a trident engraved on its left side to denote its SEAL lineage.

Overall, the contract for both the ALPHA4 Ultralight Mount and TANGO6T SFP 1-6×24 SFP Riflescope will cost the DoD $12 million per year for five years. The contract is also an indefinite delivery and indefinite quantity with a firm-fixed price. It is scheduled to end in 2023. Both gun enhancements will be manufactured in SIG Sauer’s Electro-Optics facility in Oregon.
