SHOT SHOW 2024, Day One in the Rearview Mirror

January 23, 2024 by Fred Rowlands 7 Comments

The SOFREP team was on the ground and meeting people at Industry Day AKA Range Day here at SHOT SHOW 2024. Day one is an outdoor event held at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club in Boulder City NV just outside of Las Vegas and what a day it was with plenty of guns and ammo to try, people to meet, new technology to check out, all in the name of shooting sports. The event is very special and even the constant wind and drizzling rain couldn’t put a damper on everyone’s enthusiasm, your SOFREP team included.

Industry Day is all about guns so we got the chance to pull the trigger on a wide variety of guns, older and new models. Rad, Jen, Garfield, Ajax and Mitch stopped by the Glock lane and tried out their new Gen 5 models the G29 in 10mm and G30 in .45. These new models are Glock in every sense of the word and were fun to shoot, if just a little “spicy” when it came to the G29! Our next stop was at the 1,000 yd range where Rad and Garfield sat down with the crew from Bishop Ammunition and Firearms and tried out their new .475 Bishop short magnum. In a word, WOW! We’ll have more on that later but for now I can say that the folks at Bishop have something very special on their hands.

Shot Show isn’t all about guns though, (at least that’s what I’m supposed to say!!), and I found many examples of great gear and/or technology to keep me very interested during the morning hours. I found great training technology at Mantis and took a video which will be posted later, and some awesome knives at the CASE Cutlery booth which impressed me enough to take a video there too. Another in the “great idea department” came from Pelican cases, they have a design that allows a rigid Molle panel to be attached to the underside of the lid and can easily be removed allowing changes and provide mobility for what’s attached.

Truck Vault was there with a fine example of their in-bed storage system which I was really glad to see because I had numerous questions which they were more than happy to not only answer but show why the answer was right. Good stop and demo!

CCW SAFE isn’t technology and they aren’t guns, but they are an important aspect of gun ownership that is often overlooked in today’s society, protection and assistance AFTER you have a gun related incident. After speaking with Kent Brown I came away impressed with their process, their level of caring, and look forward to speaking with them again.

One of the last stops was one of my personal favorites, the Diamondback shooting lane and talking about their new pistol, the SDR. I saw the press release and promotion about this new revolver and I was very excited to take a look, ask questions (of course!) and take a video showing a quick look at the features of this new release. Another good stop, even in the wind and rain!

There were more stops, SIMX (we HAVE to get some of that ammo on our range trip!), Snakestaff Systems, Bolle Safety, (awesome eyewear here, a review is coming!), Decibullz, (personalized low profile hearing protection WITH a radio connector) and more.

This was just day one!!

More to come, Garfield out.
