Set your own True North with Triple Aught Design’s Azimuth Pack

It’s 0’dark-whatever, and you’ve just been alerted that all civilians need to evacuate the city immediately; you cannot bring your suitcase, as it will slow you down and there is limited room in the evacuation vehicle. You will also want to have some key items with you for the duration like your dopp kit, first-aid kit, a change of clothes, your computer and all your identification documents. Trying to figure out the solution to this dilemma? You’re in luck; Triple Aught Design (TAD) has built such a piece of gear that you would be foolish not have it with you during your travels. The Azimuth Pack unique design, light weight, versatility, and pack-ability make it a perfect companion. The TAD Azimuth is designed to stow away on all your adventures as it can be packed into its own mesh pocket, rolled up, or packed flat. The Azimuth pack is built to function as a quick reaction accessory when you need to expand your carry capacity or be used as a go bag to “get the F out of dodge.”

The TAD Azimuth can definitely be described as a minimalist pack, it has no internal structure so it can be stowed away and the straps have minimal padding but is comfortable for carrying any weight below 25 lbs. The pack is primarily loaded via the large, water-resistant zipper across the top of the pack, but also has zippers running down both sides of the front panel for access and storage. The side access zipper leads to the main compartment, so you can rapidly grab items in the main compartment, this arrangement works great if you are using Control Panels (check out my TAD Control panel review) to organize your gear and need to get to it quickly. The one suggestion here is you put a visual or physical indicator on the zipper pull so you know immediately which one is for access.

The other zipper leads to a separate, mesh storage compartment that keeps small items such as, a compass, GPS, or loose change, that is readily accessible and the mesh prevent smaller items from slipping into the main compartment and interfering with your primary load out. How many times have you had loose change show up in your kit and you said, “self, how the hell did that get there?” As I mentioned the main compartment is fairly spacious and can attach TAD’s transport cubes or sleeves, or TAD’s control panels via two Helix (HX) attachment points inside of the pack. Another internal mesh pocket keeps small items accessible from the top of the pack, and also acts as the carrying pouch when stowing the Azimuth for transport. If you happen to need a hydration bladder, the attachment strap rests inside the top of the Azimuth Pack and accommodates common hydration bladders, and the hoses can be routed through the top of the pack to secure on either shoulder strap. Both straps contain a small elastic loop to secure the hose to the strap. The best part is that it is made in the USA from premium lightweight and durable weather-resistant materials.
