Intrepid BT’s, Flagship Hearing Protection from WarBird

April 18, 2024 by Fred Rowlands Leave a Comment

BAM! Ping, BAM! Ping, what better way to spend a Sunday morning with Grandson # 2 in tow?  BAM! Ping, suddenly Darth Vadar’s theme music is blaring in my ears.  What the …..  Devil is going on?  Oh wait, these are BlueTooth ear muffs and they were/are paired with my phone that’s back in the truck.  Approx 50 feet away.  And the music is the ringtone for, my wife.

I Didn’t Know They Were Still Paired, Honest

Now, which button is it?  It’s the front one, right?  Hi Honey, what do you need?

What are you doing?  Ummmm, I’m at the range remember?

Oh yes, that’s right.  You said to call you when you were on camera today, are you on camera now?   No Honey, I’m in the middle of a gun test, listen.  BAM! Ping.  BAM! Ping.

Oh, that’s what you’re doing.  Yep, that’s what I’m doing.  Did you hear the “ping”?  That’s the bullet hitting the metal target.

Yes, I heard it ok goodbye.

Note to self, I’m no longer unreachable.

Yes, I was shooting the Glock 30 VS Springfield XD-S test I wrote about last week, and when on the range good hearing protection is a must.  A perfect opportunity to try out these new Intrepid BT ear muff style hearing protection from War Bird.

As hearing protection, they work great and are very comfortable.  The ear seals are made of rubber covered Gel which makes for a great fit even with sturdy eye protection like I was wearing.  They make a good seal between your face and the Sound-Dampening Composite Housing which enclose the full dynamic range HD speakers which in turn give you optimal balanced sound. Darth Vadar’s theme came through with the utmost clarity as did the conversation with my wife despite it being a very busy day at the range.

This is part of the new breed of hearing protection becoming available, comfortable ear seals, HiFi Audio Input Jack, BlueTooth capable, USB recarghable, and 3 modes of operation, Bluetooth only, Bluetooth and hearing protection, hearing protection only.

Charging via USB can be done in 1.5 hours and a single charge will last up to 8 hours of continuous operation.  There is also an auto shutoff to conserve battery life.

Pairing with my phone was very simple and the connection to my phone inside the truck 50 feet away was perfect.  Cycling the Intrepid’s through the different modes was easy and worked exactly as described, in fact the instructions are really pretty straight forward and easy to follow.  I was prepared for a long session of learning the buttons and mastering the sequence needed to operate them but I was pleasantly surprised.

Easy to use buttons

The muffs are easily stored in the accompanying storage case that makes transport in the range box a breeze.  You wouldn’t want expensive hearing protection like these  bouncing around the crate with boxes of ammo, magazines, or even your truck for that matter.  So the storage case isn’t just nice, it’s a borderline necessity for protection of your investment which is $149.00 on the Warbird website.

Muffs Inside the Storage Case

I’ve worn them since range day while on the tractor working on my little homestead and again, no problems with any loud noises and they are very comfortable.  I wish I had these when I was working concert security and needed to hear my radio in the middle of the Tool concert.  Now THAT would have been a test!
