Glock Combat Knife Review

Glock Combat Knife Review

I have owned Glock knives for at least the past five years. I have brought them with me on patrol as a police officer as well as camping and backpacking. These knives are simple, yet effective. Just like the pistols the company is famous for.

The first thing you will probably notice if you are familiar with different knife designs is that these knives appear to be bayonets. They are long and thin and have a pronounced guard between the blade and the handle. However, they are not bayonets but very good combat knives.

These knives come in two separate blade types. One is the single edged variation, labeled the FM78: Field Knife, and the other has a saw tooth edge opposite of the regular cutting edge and is labeled the FM81: Survival Knife. I own, and have used, both. The Field Knife is described on Glock’s website as being “The classic army knife can be used for any purpose: as a weapon or an outdoor knife for opening munitions boxes of bottles. With safety sheath made of GLOCK polymer.” The Survival Knife is described as, “The classic army knife can be used for any purpose: as a weapon or an outdoor knife for opening munitions boxes of bottles. With safety sheath made of GLOCK polymer.”

From the Glock website:

“Both field and survival GLOCK knives are made of special hardened steel with polymer handles and black anti-corrosive coated blades for maximum durability and ruggedness. Knives come with matching sheaths made of high-impact resistant polymer material and feature a loop catch that allows for quick drawing with only one hand. They fit belts up to 2.4 in. (60mm) in width.”

The synthetic handle is very durable. The sheath has a built in clip that self-locks onto a belt or tactical vest. I also throw knives with my teenage son in our backyard for fun (and other reasons…) and these Glock knives have held up very well with no damage to the blades and no damage to the handles. The knives are available with handles in olive drab, desert sand, or midnight black.

The other awesome thing about these knives is the price! These knives can be purchased in the $20 range ($21-$28). In my professional opinion that is an excellent value given the quality, and what they can do for you.

So consider buying one of these Glock knives to add to your collection or for everyday use; you will not regret it.
