Asolo Fugitive GTX Boots: Combat Tested

Asolo Fugitive GTX Boots: Combat Tested

I’ve tried several boots in the past few years and I always seem to get the same brands: Asolo, Lowa and La Sportiva. In the past 3 years though, I’ve worn the Asolo Fugitive GTX. The boots are tough, keep your feet dry and are comfortable even when you are carrying a heavy ruck. The […]

Danner Lookout 8" Boot | Chopper pilot approved

Danner Lookout 8″ Boot | Chopper pilot approved

For the previous two years I have been wearing the Danner Lookout 8” side-zip boot. As an EMS helicopter pilot, I need a boot that is not just comfortable to wear for hours on end, but something that I can slip on quickly when the phone rings. While deployed to Afghanistan in 2002 as a […]

Hillsound Trail Crampon Ultra | Extra traction for hitting winter trails

Hillsound Trail Crampon Ultra | Extra traction for hitting winter trails

Winter is here and with it a varying degree of weather depending on where you live. For the average outdoor enthusiast, it might mean that their local hiking trails are closed or limited due to snow and other winter conditions. Barring any local agency restrictions, having a little adverse weather doesn’t mean you can’t continue […]

Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Boots

Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Boots

Selecting the proper footwear for your environment is often taken for granted. Far too often people will select an inappropriate style of footwear for their needs, choosing style and brand name over functionality for their environment. Buyers need to educate themselves against marketing ploys and gimmicks so that they can find footwear that will correctly […]

Loadout Room photo of the day | Winter riding gear – boots

I use the Sidi All Roads boots. Full Goretex liner, good protection throughout, resole-able and they’ll go over or under any pants. I’ve personally used them at 25 degrees for two-plus hours at 80+ MPH with only a normal Darn Tough Vermont wool sock and had no issues. Buy once. Courtesy of Defoor Proformance

OluKai Waimea

OluKai Waimea Sandal | Essential Island footwear

Many words in the Hawaiian language start or end with wai, the Hawaiian word for water. From the ancient people of Hawai’i to the current residents, the waters, or wai, of the Pacific Ocean have played a huge part of life on this island chain. Island kings would paddle war canoes between the islands for […]

Darn Tough vs Smartwool | Which sock is best?

Darn Tough vs Smartwool | Which sock is best?

The importance of high quality socks cannot be stressed enough. When your feet hurt, are sore, fatigued or aching, the rest of your body (legs, back, shoulders and even your brain seem) to feel the resonating impact of each footfall! More than just the physical pain, you also experience mental and psychological discomfort, and as […]

Vasque Cold Spark Winter Hiking Boots | Quick Look

Vasque Coldspark UltraDry boots: The all day lightweight and durable cold weather boot

Winter is upon us and that means cold, wet and snowy conditions. If you’re like me, you don’t let the weather conditions stop you from enjoying the outdoors. I really enjoy winter day hikes. The scenery is beautiful, it’s generally pretty quiet and there are no damn bugs out flying around. You do however need […]

Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX | First impression: Lightweight meets quality

Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX | First impression: Lightweight meets quality

The Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX boots are what you get when lightweight meets quality.  These boots have exceeded my expectations early on and are a worthy investment.  You may already be familiar with the Merrell Moab 2 hiking shoes, and while these shoes are a popular choice, the Moab 2 Mid GTX boots were […]
