Rick Dembroski

Rick Dembroski I spent 10 of the best years of my life as a USAF Civil Engineer, traveling the globe, drinking beer, and causing chaos. My superiors dubbed me "King of Useless Knowledge" a title that I still love to this day. I separated in 2002 as a SSgt (E5- in the USAF), and chose to stay in the frozen north of Alaska, currently I work as an Emergency Management Specialist where I combine my love of chaos and preparedness to ensure people know how to survive disasters.

Sig Sauer P225: Accurate, Reliable and Durable

The readers of the site should have already figured out long ago that the writers here on the site like our guns. I’ll be the first one to tell you I wasn’t in a traditional combat arms job during my nearly 10-year military career. I didn’t have a career of kicking doors and bringing hate […]

Photo of the day: Smith & Wesson M49

Photo of the day: Smith & Wesson M49

Found this photo In my old files. In 1970 apparently, $100 could get you a Hell of a gun and have money for a meal. It’s one of my prized possessions; my grandfathers old Smith & Wesson. -Rick Dembroski

Prepping 101 | Beans Bullets and Band-Aids

Disaster Preparedness: Beans Bullets and Band-Aids

Poorly handled logistics can doom any operation or project incredibly fast. So how do we avoid letting that happen to us in a “post-incident” scenario? The three B’s: beans, bullets, and Band-Aids. These are the key components that make up the backbone of recovery. It’s also essential we learn to properly select, store, and safeguard them. […]

Disaster Preparedness: Top 10 Overlooked Must-haves

Disaster Preparedness: Top 10 Overlooked Must-haves

In this installment of  “Real-World Prepping,” we will be covering a first here at The Loadout Room: a top-ten list, but with a twist. Our list will focus on things that most preppers tend to overlook or forget to add to their cache of supplies. Note: This list isn’t in order of importance; it’s just a list. In […]

Propper International Series 300 Boots

Propper International Series 300 Boots

This past summer we had our own USMC Veteran and current wildland firefighter Travis Pike perform an extensive testing cycle on the Propper International Series 100 boots. So when Propper International reached out and asked if I wanted to test out their 300 Series boots I knew that I was going to be testing a quality […]

FAB Defense Scorpus Covert G-9 Holster

FAB Defense Scorpus Covert G-9 Holster

The name FAB Defense should be no stranger to regular readers of the Load Out Room, the Israeli based company has had several of their products featured here before. FAB Defense made a name for themselves with their KPOS Glock carbine conversion kit and their GL-Core AR15 stock that was compatible with both civilian and […]

Streamlight Protac HL 4: Big league brightness

Streamlight Protac HL 4: Big league brightness

In many lines of work, a small portable pocket flashlight with a couple of hundred lumens worth of capability is just fine, other times you need to be able to light up a large area quickly. The problem is finding a medium size flashlight that isn’t heavy and cumbersome but still has a capable lens […]

Boulder Case Company | Tough-As-Nails Cases

When we invest our money into gear, the goal is to be able to use it and store it for years to come. The problem then becomes, how do we store it safely without going broke in the process? Over the years, I have personally had the unfortunate experience of losing expensive DSLR cameras, and lenses […]

Stanley 18" FuBar Forcible Entry Tool

Stanley 18″ FuBar Forcible Entry Tool

Anyone that has served in the military knows the acronym FUBAR. Generally, when the word is uttered it’s not a good thing, it’s pretty much the exact opposite of a good thing. So when a new demolition tool from Stanley Tools arrived at my door (bearing that name), you can understand why I smiled. Stanley Tools had certainly piqued my curiosity. […]

Maxpedition Riftblade CCW Backpack

Maxpedition Riftblade CCW Backpack: First Look

It doesn’t take a genius to see that the world is a violent place all we have to do is watch the news. In the last few years shootings at public events have made headline news around the world. This has prompted the quick growth of one particular industry in the last few years, the […]
