The Taurus 24/7 G2  is a full sized pistol that provides a lot of value to the user and maintains an affordable price point. That’s not easy to do in the 21st century with shrinking profit margins and increasing competition around every corner. There are some of you out there in the internet who will bash Taurus at every turn and not give this pistol a chance, and  that’s unfortunate. I’ve learned that when things are produced sometimes there are issues that come up, often times steps in the design and fabrication have to be reworked or smoothed out. This unfortunately sometimes leads to products developing a unfair reputation which might not be fully warranted. The 24 /7 G2 is a pistol that got an unfair shake by my reviewers due to a suspect video from Brazil.
When I was asked if I wanted to test and evaluate another Taurus pistol I welcomed the chance to see what else Taurus could bring to the table. The Taurus 809 I had previously evaluated has a few quirks at first but wasn’t a bad pistol by any stretch of the imagination. I didn’t even honestly ask what it was going to be, what model or caliber, I just said Yes. This was back in January the week before I went to SHOT 2016 with the members of our parent company Force12Media.com, SOFREP.com and LoadOutRoom.com  I left and didn’t think anything about it until I got home and received the phone call from James Foley of Arctic Arms who told me my box arrived.
So when the box showed up I felt like a kid on christmas morning, full of excitement and curiosity, and when I opened the box there was a little bit of a let down when I saw yet another full size pistol in the case. This let down would quickly fade into renewed optimism, the Taurus 24/7 G2 would perform like a champ, but lets look at the specifics of this pistol first.

The test of the Taurus 24 /7 was the first time I decided in the name of uniformity and consistantcy to use one brand and bullet weight for the entire evaluation process. The standardization of testing ammunition will give us as evaluators and you as readers a better picture of the pistols functionality. It’s our quasi scientific control group. The ammunition chosen for this test was Union Metallic Cartridge 115 grain full metal jacketed 9mm, the yellow box standard for all pistol testing.
Initial Impressions
As I said before the initial impression of the Taurus 24/7 G2 was good but it felt just sorta Blah, until I began to hold it and working the slide and  trigger. The first thing I noticed about the 24/7 was the grip featured a similar texture pattern to the model 809 I had previously evaluated, not exactly the same but reminiscent of it. The contoured grip fit well in my hand and allowed easy access to the safety / decocker lever. The size of the grip and placement of my hand on it still forced me to change hand position to engage the magazine release, not a Taurus problem, its a small hand problem.
The 24/7 also featured a picatinny style rail under the barrel which seems to be standard on all polymer pistols now a days, and a loaded chamber indicator on the top of the slide. The finish on the slide is a brushed stainless to allow those of us who dislike cleaning firearms the luxury of being lazy without ruining the coating of the gun. Rounding out the rest of the slide features are the adjustable three dot white sights and the Taurus Security System locking mechanism which renders the pistol inoperable and safe. This system has been a Taurus standard for years.
Range TimeÂ
We loaded up our RSR Steel target and our five pack of UMC 250 round bulk pack ammo and headed to the range. I can report that the 17 round magazines loaded much easier than the 809 magazines did and that throughout the days shooting they did not fail once. The Taurus 24 / 7 didn’t fail once that day either, yes you are reading that correctly the 24 / 7 digested 1250 rounds of 115 grain UMC full metal jacket ammunition without a single misfire or hiccup.
The trigger pull on the 24/7 was about what I expected out of the box, it was smooth enough coming in at around 7.5 lbs on average. I hate to sound boring or repetitive but nothing here shocked me on the Taurus 24/7 it did what it was suppose to do every time we pulled the trigger it has a consistent trigger pull and the safety/decocker lever worked flawlessly.
For my last test I did something that I never thought I would do to a gun, I tried to make it go off accidentally. There are videos and tales of this gun going off while being mishandled. Well to test this “theory” and I use that term loosely, I inserted a loaded magazine and performed several tests to see if I could make it misfire. Guess what, NOTHING happened, I shook the gun, hit the gun with blocks of lumber and with a rubber mallet, and still it didn’t accidentally discharge or give me any issues at all. It did fire when I pulled the trigger and cycled 100% effectively.
This gun wasn’t cleaned aside from a little Slip 2000 lubricant and we ran it for 1250 rounds and then a little more. The Taurus 24/7 worked great, plain and simple. It’s not made by Sig or Heckler & Koch, it doesn’t have a european pedigree or some billion dollar marketing campaign behind it. This gun is marketed and made for the consumer who doesn’t have $1000 for a pistol or just doesn’t want to spend that much money. What Taurus does here is produce a pistol that packages good looks, simple controls and a good amount of safety built in and just flat out ran well. Nothing flashy this is a gun for the people who want a no frills functional gun.
I was sad to see this gun go back to Taurus, it would have made a great gift to a family member or two. In closing I will say, I can’t tell you what other peoples experiences with Taurus have been but both of mine have been very welcoming and professional from all the people and staff I have dealt with, and the guns are built as well as any Ruger or Smith & Wesson semi auto I have shot.
