The name Geissele Automatics in our firearms community is synonymous with innovation, quality materials, great products and outstanding customer service. It was part of this long list of attributes that made the selection of our latest piece of gear an easy decision. This installment of The Arms Guide we take a look at the Super Precision Series of mounts by Geissele Automatics.
Who is Geissele Automatics ?Â
There are people out there who have never heard of the company, so lets take a few seconds to fill you in to what the company is all about and a few of their products. Geissele Automatics is based out of North Wales Pennsylvania right here in the United States. The company lists only a few things on their “About Us” section of their web page and its simple and right to the point. We have taken these mission statements direct from the company’s web site www.Geissele.com
THE GEISSELE MISSION
To prove, every day, that the Golden Rule works: “Do to others as you would have them do to you” Luke 6:31.
“We Manufacture Confidence”
FOR THE COMPETITOR
Geissele Automatics was established in 2004 as a manufacturer of trigger mechanisms for the AR15 rifle. Our first trigger, the Hi-Speed National Match, was designed by our Founder, Bill Geissele, for CMP and NRA Hi-Power Rifle competition. FOR THE WARFIGHTER
Although designed for target shooting, the Geissele Hi-Speed trigger was found by the U.S. Military to have applications in semi-automatic sniper weapons. In 2005 Geissele Automatics received a request from the Department of Defense: “Can you build us a select-fire trigger that is as good as your Hi-Speed?” In response, Bill designed the Geissele Super Select-Fire trigger (SSF). After rigorous testing the SSF was adopted by entities in the U.S. Special Operations community and has become their trigger of choice for M4 carbine based weapons.
FOR THE PROTECTOR
A derivative of the SSF trigger was developed to meet the needs of law enforcement and civilians who do not need select-fire capability. This trigger, the Super Semi-Automatic (SSA,) combines stellar performance with the safety, reliability and forgiveness for which 2 stage triggers are known. ”
The Super Precision optic mount that we have selected for testing is built specifically for the Trijicon MRO red dot optic that we have featured before here on The Arms Guide. While I love the Trijicon MRO the mount that is provided with the optic was big, square and just looked like an aluminum block attached to the optic. Sure it worked, but I wanted something less distracting and with a smaller profile, so when the company had an unexpected Halloween Sale, I figured it was the perfect time for an upgrade. There are a few things about this mount that I want to go over quickly before we move onto the impressions and the installation.

Fit , Finish and Installation
When it all boils down this is the part of the review that is the most important to our readers. How does the product look, feel and function when employed as it’s intended to be. The optic arrived vis United States Postal Service and shockingly the USPS didn’t crush, beat, kick or damage my package for the first time in quite a while. When I opened the package I count the Super Precision Mount in a standard Geissele packaging, nothing extravagant because it didn’t need to be.
When I got the mount out of the wrapper I gave it a quick once over to see if there were any defects in the coating, lettering, scratches etc. As I have come to expect with other Geissele products, it arrived in perfect shape. The quality control at the factory and the shipping department has always gotten high praise from me. The finish on the mount was an even dark black color. All the usually wording on the mount was clear and white with no hints of smudges or defects. So once the visual inspection was done it was time to remove the old factory Trijicon mount and instal the new one.
When installing the mount there are a few things that I noticed that I would like to pass along.
- The mount can be reversed so that the locking nut can be on either side
- The screws provided with the Super Precision Mount are slightly shorter than stock screws that came with the optic. This might not be the case with all varieties of the mount
- You will need a 3/32 allen wrench for the screws. I think this should be provided with each mount.
The rest of the installation process is pretty straight forward if you have an ounce of mechanical ability or can read the provided instructions. Place the mount on the optic and using a 3/32 allen wrench tighten the four screws in an “X” pattern. The recommended torque for the bolts is 12-15 inches each. Since I don’t have a torque wrench that is capable of inches, I used the tried and true method of tight + a quarter turn, which is also what the company suggests in their installation manual.
Once I was sure all four screws were tight I returned to my Noveske short barrel rifle and reinstalled the optic in the same location that it was before, with a slight change in the way I did it. In the original Trijicon mount the optic was held on by two small screws, with the new Geissele Super Precision it was held on with using a three-shear lug system that the company says can apply 1,400 lbs of clamping force. This new much stronger system requires the use of a 1/2″ box end wrench to fully secure the mount to the rifle.
Completion and Final Thoughts
Installing a mount like this isn’t rocket science, in fact it took less than 10 minutes total, and most of that was looking for a 3/32 allen wrench. When it’s all said and done and the mount is installed the difference between it and the original factory Trijicon mount is noticeable. With the new Geissele mount when you shoulder the weapon and look through the optic the field of vision is clear and simple. The tapered solid base of the Super Precision Mount provides me with less distraction that the old open hole box of the factory mount. I use to think “Whats the big deal with aftermarket mounts”, now that I have tried one I can begin to understand their advantages, especially in a high stress situation.
We hope you have enjoyed this look into the Geissele Automatics Super Precision scope mount, since we are wading into the area of aftermarket scope mounts, we want to know what our readers are using. Are you a fan of quick detach mounts or does that aspect of an optic mount not matter to you ? Who’s your “go-to” aftermarket brand ? Larue ? Geissele ?, American Defense ? or do you use multiple brands? Let us know or drop us an image in the comments section and tell us what you prefer and why ?
