There are many USB power banks on the market for charging your mobile devices on the move. We’ve even reviewed several of them. There is even a phone case from Snow Lizard that we reviewed that contains an onboard battery and small solar panel for keeping the onboard battery pack topped off. Although that is a really cool concept (I personally own one), the initial investment can be a bit much for some.
In a quest to find an affordable alternative I came across the PowerGreen 10,000 mAh solar charger/power bank. Although I haven’t had too much hands on yet, this unit offers a few of the same benefits as the Snow Lizard, but at a significantly lower price point. The PowerGreen unit can be purchased on Amazon for around $24!
Specifications:
Battery capacity: 10000 mAh
Input: 5V/2A
Output: 5V/1A 5V/2.1 A
Solar panel: 2W
Size: 5.43 x 2.83 x 0.91 inch
Product weight: 220g
The unit comes with 2 USB output ports for plugging in your smart phone, tablets or watches and headlamps (if they are USB rechargeable). There is also a single input for charging the unit with the included cord.
The PowerGreen unit has a generously sized solar panel on one side that keeps the power bank topped off throughout your day. All you need to do is set it in a window or outside if your taking a break on your hike or bike ride. There are 5 LED lights on the solar panel side to indicate the charge level. The 5th LED lights up when the unit it placed in the sun indicating that it is charging off the sunlight. If the LED is not lit then you’ll need to play around with positioning the unit for the optimal sunlight.
On the opposite side of the PowerGreen unit is a large light that can be used in an emergency by pressing the power button twice.
All in all it is a great product that should be in your daily bag or backpack so that you’re never left with a dead phone. Time will tell what the durability is of this product.
